It’s the end of school year…it means that I finally have time to blog 🙂
This time I wanted to share about Netflix series. I couldn’t watch all that I wanted to watch because Netflix is currently being blocked by our national provider. Since I live in school so I have to use whatever provider is used in school. I would love to change the provider into something that will not block Netflix…unfortunately I can’t.
However, good news is finally coming. Few days ago, our national provider finally going to unblock Netflix. They had this agreement about tax. I am extremely happy with the news and hoping that it the news is not a hoax.
Since Netflix is being blocked, yes I admit that I have to be creative by finding free online streaming to watch these series (I won’t be doing it if I can legally subscribe to Netflix). Hopefully we ( Indonesian that use I***H*** can finally see Netflix series legally soon)
Here are the series that I have watched and love it so much.
#1 DARK
A German series which people often compared to Stranger Things, to be honest I found this series because of Stranger Things. However DARK is WAY better than Stranger Things, it’s on another level. The writers are incredibly genius, Imo. The tag line is “everything is interconnected” and it is literally everything is interconnected.
It’s a time travel story but unlike most time travel stories I have ever seen. The last series that awed so much was The X Files, now DARK is the second series to do that to me. Season 2 was mind-blowing and can’t wait to see the third and final season this June 27.
The stories has several timelines that focused on 4 families…I couldn’t tell much of the stories because I might end up sharing important spoilers. Apart from the stories what made this series amazing was the casting, everyone looked similar as if they really were acting from kid to old age (as if they were not acted by different people). Simply said DARK IS AMAZING.
#2 The Witcher
The Witcher is based on a book series and video game. I haven’t yet read the book, however for me The Witcher is one of those special case when the lead actor totally embodied the character…throughout the series, I didn’t see Henry Cavill, I saw Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher). He was one of the reasons that made me glued to binge-watch the series.
It was a fantasy which combined monster, magic and super power. The story was seen through three different timelines, Yennever’s timeline (she was a witch), Geralt’s timeline and Ciri’s timeline. Ciri was linked to Geralt by destiny, she was his Law of Surprise.
#3 Kingdom
Korean drama series is very famous in my country now but I don’t watch those series because they are TOO drama. Kingdom is on a different level to all those Korean drama series. The story was a mix of political intrigue and the living dead (zombie). In order to keep the rightful heir out of throne, a political elite made sure that the King had not yet dead. He revived the dead king which then caused catastrophe across the country.
There are two seasons and hopefully there will be season 3 (no information yet) even though all the political intrigue is solved in season 2.
#4 Unbelievable
This series was based on real life events. Names were changed but the story was strongly taken from an article called ” An Unbelievable Story of Rape” It was about a girl named Marie who was raped brutally but no one believed that it was actually happened. Three years later same cases appeared and two female detectives determined to solve the case.
I was hooked the moment I saw the first episode.
#5 Stranger Things
The first series that got me hooked with Netflix original series was Stranger Things. A lot of people think that this is the best series from Netflix…although I really like Stranger Things but I wouldn’t say it’s the best, for me the best is still Dark.
I don’t think I have much things to say about ST because it’s really famous. Basically the story was about a gap to another world which was not a pretty as our world. A little girl named L had power to move things and other awesome things including closing the gap to another world. The first series was the best for me because it had Stephen King’s vibes which was the first reason why I watched this series in the first time. The second and third weren’t that amazing. But having said that, I am still waiting for season 4.
#6 Control Z
This series from Mexico got hooked since the first episode. The trailer kinda said it all. Sofia, a bit like Sherlock, tried to find the hacker who shared the dirty secret of students in her school (or is it university?). The pace of the story was great, every ending made me want to continue to the next one. I binge-watch 8 episodes in 2 days (it would be 1 day is I were still single).
The only problem I have with this series is the free life style that these teenager shows. Free sex, free drugs and free drinks are really not my culture so irk me in some way, fortunately the story was very intriguing.
Those are the series that I have watched.
Next are the series I would love to watch. The first two are coming up soon, the next two are waiting to be watched after Netflix is no longer blocked. I will let the trailer speaks for itself because I haven’t yet seen them 🙂
#7 Old Guard – July 10
Immortal army…very intriguing and I wouldn’t miss seeing Charlize Theron kicking ass in this series.
#8 Japan Sinks: 2020 – July 9
The trailer looks like it would be an interesting anime.
#9 Into the Night
This series from Belgium sounds like my type of movie/series. Survival against something mysterious, I am totally in.
#10 The Killing
A remake from Danish Series called Forbrydelsen. Just like Into The Light, the trailer sounds like my type of series.
The last three I want to share are series that I have watched, several episodes or several seasons, but haven’t continued it yet for some reasons. I might continue it one day.W
#11 Lockey and Key
Based on Joe Hill’s Graphic Novel about keys to unlocked so many unusual things. When I saw the trailer I was immediately waiting for it…unfortunately, after two episodes I found it hard to continue due to the poor actors. The story was great (it’s based on Jo Hill’s novel, of course it’s great) but the actors were terrible. I wish they have chosen better actors.
#12 Peaky Blinders
I have seen two series of Peaky Blinders when the series was still produced by BBC One. I have written why you should watch Peaky Blinders after watching season 1 (here) and review of season two (here). Despite the fact that I really really really love CIllian Murphy but it is hard to start watching Peaky Blinders Season 3 which already owned by Netflix. Gangsters and mafia movies/series was never really my thing, that’s why I still haven’t watched season 3.
13 Snowpiercers
Although the trailer didn’t intrigue me but I watch it anyway because I like Jennifer Connelly, however after first episode I felt reluctant to continue to second episode. Maybe one day I will continue it.
Well those are 13 Netflix Original Series that I can share for Thursday Thirteen. I hope one them can make you curious and start watching it 🙂
Happy Thursday Thirteen everyone 🙂
Hi,
Haven’t seen any of the t.v. series you shared…I’ll have to check them out. Have a great day!
Hi Sherrie,
I hope you will enjoy one of them
Nice to see you back. I haven’t seen any of those series, either, as I don’t have Netflix, either. I have very slow internet so I don’t do much streaming. Maybe one day!
Hi Dew,
I am trying to be back once or twice a year, I hope it can be more but it’s so difficult now
I still get Netflix movies through the mail. I wonder why they can’t also offer their series via DVDs too.
I like streaming, it reduces spaces a lot.
I am still confused about how to keep all my DVD and ended up giving them away
I LOVE Stranger Things! Locke & Key is in my queue, and I’ve watched 2 seasons of Peaky Blinders. I agree- Cillian Murphy is a dream. Those eyes
Yaaaiii…another Stranger Things fans 🙂
I wish I can continue Peaky Blinders, at least to see Cillian, but it really isn’t my cup of tea
The only one of those I’ve seen is Stranger Things. I’m watching The 100 now which I like, even though the characters make a lot of dumb choices.
I should check 100 one day. I am currently enjoying a lot of supernatural series. I don’t know why I like such thrilling series
I have since watched DARK, and I have to say it is probably the best series I have ever seen.
Yeaaaaa…..
so glad to hear that. I totally agree with, the best series I have ever seen and I like the fact that they didn’t try to make more seasons. They stick to their original plan despite its fame.
