The Reichenbach Fall – The final episode of SHERLOCK’s 2nd Series

John: I am here because …
Psychiatrist:
What happened John?
John:
Sherlock, my friend…
Psychiatrist:
You need to get it out
John:
Sherlock, my best friend, Sherlock Holmes is dead.

NO I DIDN’T JUST GIVE YOU SPOILER!!! That was the opening of The Reichenbach Fall. (use your mouse to read the above quote)

Clearly, if you have read Sherlock Holmes, no matter how ages ago it was…you would remember what happened in this story. The Reichenbach Fall was the climax of Sherlock-Moriarty rivalry.

Well…let’s just begin with a bit of the story….Don’t worry, no spoiler will be given in the first page…however, if you have watched this final episode, please take a look at PAGE 2. I want you to share your opinion on it. That part is perfect for a discussion 😉

Sherlock was suddenly becoming more famous than ever after he solved the case of The Reichenbach Fall. His exposure in newspaper had made him more than just a private detective. It was the perfect time for Moriarty to do his plan which is, obviously, to destroy Sherlock. He broke through some important and high security places at once and let himself caught by the police.

Sherlock was asked to be the expert witness…but as we can all guess, he did his ‘thing’.

Judge: Do you think you can survive for few second without showing off?!

Well….it’s Sherlock!! How could he NOT showing off!!

Moriarty walked free, the details needed here because that would be an annoying spoiler, and had a nice chat with Sherlock. Not long after that, Sherlock was asked to help Lestrade to solve a kidnapping case. The case then led to a series of events that could bring the end of Sherlock Holmes.

Curious?? DO WATCH THE SERIES!!

I really like this dialogue between John and Sherlock. It showed how they were meant for each other

John: I don’t want the world believing that you’re …
Sherlock: That I am what?
John: … a fraud!

Sherlock: You’re worry they are right about me!
John:
No.
Sherlock:
Moriarty is playing with your mind too!!! CAN’T YOU SEE WHAT’S GOING ON!!!
John: No!! I know you for real.

Sherlock: 100%?
John:
Nobody can fake being such an annoying DICK all the time.

Isn’t John so sweet? 😉

Obviously…at least in my opinion…the last episode of this second series is the best of all. Less humorous and very serious. Moriarty got to make Sherlock dance again. Although I have to say it again that I DON’T LIKE how Moriarty is portrayed in this series. Andrew Scott made Moriarty looks like such an annoying DRAMA QUEEN. I always thought that Moriarty is a calm villain. I know it’s a bit unusual that I didn’t mind when they changed the personality of Irene Adler, this series’ version of Adler is much more interesting than the book…but for Moriarty, I prefer the book version better.

It’s nice to see that Sherlock does have FRIENDS not only Friend like he claimed it to be in The Hounds of Baskerville.

Strange as it might sound…I re-watched the whole series in a marathon of 2 episodes per day in order to write a better review…but in the end, I feel that this review is not as good as I wanted it to be….due to the trying to avoid spoiler. One thing for sure…the series is getting better and better and Benedict and martin relationship look much stronger in every episode. But I can guarantee you that you want more Sherlock the moment you finished this last episode…what an ending!!!

…Or you can try reading this better review I found in internet> Esoteric Fish

I can’t wait for another year to see the next series!!! I want to see whether my conclusion is right or not. And of course I want to watch this amazing couple again.

Hint: You need to see the movie twice, at least the last 30 minutes!!

Now….FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SEEN ITplease check page 2. I have written my conclusion of The Fall’s ending. I want you to share your opinion too.

I might be on the side of the angels, but don’t think for one second that I am one of them

  1. from the page 1: “Andrew Scott made Moriarty looks like such an annoying DRAMA QUEEN.” <– WORD!!! I also don't like how he portrays Moriarty!

    And as for the ending,

I also thought Sherlock had arranged something with Molly too.

This is just my opinion though; I think why Sherlock said all those things to John on the phone is either (1) it’s a secret message for John to crack it or (2) he somehow also knew that Moriarty faked his death too (or maybe Moriarty’s people were still watching Sherlock’s move), so he tried to make people believe that he indeed committed suicide. IMHO :p

Use you mouse to blacken the text above as it is a huge spoiler

    1. Glad to know that Riz!!! I started to believe that I am the only one who don’t like him….a lot of people in tumblr like his potrayal. I always imagine Moriarty as a calm genius man.

I think a lot of people realize how Molly plays such a big role in that trick. Molly is really trustworthy.

a secret code sounds like a good reason. I wonder what code is he trying to say.
You also believe Moriarty is faking it? I kinda hope he is really gone…but most likely not
      😦

thank you for sharing your thought Fariz 🙂

  2. I’ve read all the books and seen the RDJ films, but I have not had a chance to see this series of Sherlock Holmes. As far as I know, it’s not available here in the States. I hope to catch it eventually as it sounds terrific. Great review, I love your enthusiasm.

    1. Ow my dear Melissa!! If you have read all the book…then I guarantee that you will LOVE this series. Benedict is really awesome as Sherlock.
I don’t know will US ever play it or not, there are even scary rumour of a remake (Pray to God it will NEVER happen)…but you can find the DVD easily in Amazon.

Thank you for reading Mel 🙂

  3. I missed all 3 of them but they will probably be shown on Flemish telly in the near future as well so I’m keeping an eye out for that moment!

    1. ah…too bad you missed it. It is BRILLIANT!!! I think it is better than the first one, but I am not saying that the first series is not great. Let’s just say slightly better than the first one 😉

Do watch it when it is being rerun. I have watched this second series 3 times.

    1. Hear hear!! and somehow I feel that it will end with only 3 series because the next series they will show John getting married with Mary.
For me, Sherlock is the best series in a decade. I just love it so much. Do come back after you watch it and let’s discuss the ending 😉

  4. For some reason I enjoyed the more simpler second episode to this one. But I think I better give this episode another watch. I also missed episode one of the series so will have to check that out on BBC iPlayer.

    1. For some reasons? like what?
I do agree the second one is much simpler than this, but the relationship between Sherlock and John is much stronger here…and I like that a lot. Plus, the last part where Moffat left a clue sort of makes me so curious.
Looking forward to know your opinion of the first episode Dan 🙂

  5. The script sounds so witty, that’s always the strength of BBC series. They don’t just have pretty people on screen like a lot of the shows here in the US.

Say something so I know you have read my post, THANK YOU for reading :)
