Teaser Tuesday – Hearts in Atlantis

undefined

Teaser Tuesday is a fun bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Everyone can play along, all you have to do is simply take the book you are currently reading. And then share 2 ‘teaser’ sentences from any page in the book. I often share more than 2 sentences ;)

Please avoid SPOILER!!

I am currently reading Hearts in Atlantis by my favorite author, Stephen King. So far, I enjoyed the first novella so much 🙂

I love these 2 quotes so much!

From Page 25

“There are also books full of great writing that don’t have very food stories. Read sometimes for the story, Bobby. Don’t be like the book-snobs who won’t do that. Read sometimes for the words – the language. Don’t be like the play-it-safers that won’t do that. But when you find a book that has both a good story and good words, treasure that book.”

 From Page 34

“But what if I don’t like it?”

Ted shrugged. “Then don’t finish it. A book is like a pump. It gives nothing unless first you give to it. You prime a pump with your own water, you work the handle with your strength. You do this because you expect to get back more than you give….eventually. Do you go along with that?”

Bobby nodded.

“How long would you prime a water-pump and flail the handle when nothing came out?”

Looking forward to reading your teaser 🙂

PS. This is my 950th post \(^^)/

  1. My teaser comes from an English author I picked up at the library this week that I have not read before and I am liking it! Thanks for the link to the Tuesday Teaser thing! Am adding it to my list of things to follow, blog about, etc!!! Great idea and a way to find new books to read!!!

  2. Love that first one. I’m a bit too much like a “book-snob” sometimes, but I do treasure those books with both good writing and a good story. Thanks for sharing these. If you get a chance, my teaser is here.

  3. @JGriffin thank you.

@Julie On contrary, I am more into story…but just like you, I treasure the one that has both, like The Lord of The Rings I am more into story…but just like you, I treasure the one that has both, like The Lord of The Rings

  4. Congratulations on number nine five zero!!

This quote is very close to my own view of reading – for example, one of the main reasons I love reading stories by Elizabeth Bowen is her use of the English language – I normally read her stories with a dictionary nearby! In terms of short stories, love of the language is the most important thing for me and after that the plot.

    1. Thank you Roisin.
I assume you have returned from your vacation in Berlin 😉

Those teasers also applies to me…well it applies to every book worm I supposed. But I am standing on different side to you. I care more about the plot than the language…but just like the teaser said, I treasure the one that has both. My example of good language and story are Lord of The Rings and Rainbow Troops (Indonesian book I gave away recently).

As for the 2nd teaser…it is SOOO ME!!! hehe I often drop a book I didn’t enjoy because I don’t have all the time in the world to read books I don’t enjoy…there are still so many great books waiting to be read out there.
