Finally! I have found the perfect time to read this book. Been wanting to read this since I found out that Matthew Bellamy of Muse was inspired by this book when he was writing Muse latest album The Resistance.

Here is my teaser.

For, after all, how  do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of  gravity works?  Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external  world exist only in the mind, and if the mind  it-self is controllable —  what then?

Freedom is freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that  is granted, all else follows.

      It’s nice reading quotes from many kind of book. My post always publish earlier than the host, it’s the advantage of living in Asia.

      1. This is author Jon Krakauer’s personal account (he was part of one of the affected climbing expeditions that year) for the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. Eight people died during that May 10-11 ascent, helping to make that year the single deadliest in Everest’s history. It’s a thrilling and heartbreaking non-fiction read. It, too, was one I had wanted to take in for the longest. Thanks, Novroz.

  7. 1984 was one of those books I thankfully missed reading in school because I think, like Citizen Kane, teaching classic masterpieces to kids who aren’t interested in the material can seriously undermine the text. It wasn’t until years after I had first seen Citizen Kane (at 14) that I eventually watched it without having to study it. It was a much more satisfying experience. I read 1984 for my own interest and enjoyment and enjoyed it for what it is – a brilliant, thought-provoking, forward-thinking story.

    1. I can understand your feeling, Dan…even though I never had such reading assignment.My country’s education system (at my time) didn’t focus on reading activity. But I know how it feel to read something because he HAVE to instead of because we WANT to.
      So far, I can see the brilliant-ness of this book,I hope I can enjoy it up to the last sentence.

    1. I admit that so far I think the book is really good… still have to finish it before making my final judgement.

      Thank you Irina, books have been part of my life since my teen. I cant go anywhere without bringing a book and read it on the way.

  20. I LOVE THIS BOOK. Oh my Lord. When I first read it, I was like, “Um…?” And then a few years later some friends of mine started talking about it, and themes from it kept coming back to me and hitting me over the head with the power of an elephant – it was seriously impactful. I read it again a few years ago and I loved it even more. Another book that I like (possibly better than this one, if that’s possible) that’s along the same genre as this is Fahrenheit 451. It’s sooooooooo good.

      I still haven’t finished it yet, been too busy lately, so I can’t say much right now…but I do liking it so far.
