Back in 2011, I have written Top 5 Movies by Cillian which included two parts, one is the movies I love because of the plot and the other is the movies I love because of his amazing performance.
You can read its full post HERE (where I love those movies), but if you only want to know the title of the movies, here they are:
Best Cillian Murphy’s Movies based on the storyline:

Best Cillian Murphy’s Movies based on his brilliant performance:
|
Inspired by a post written by Ruth @ Flixchatter about a movie by her used to be number one actor, Gerry Butler, in which she said So that’s one crush I’m saying good bye to after all these years. Whilst we’re on the topic, which of your movie crush disappointed you this past year?
I haven’t found a movie with Cillian in it that makes me turn my back on Cillian (hopefully that will never happen) because even though I hate the movie, Cillian still looks fabulous and gave his whole heart to act his part. That post makes me want to write this post and also I think it’s not fair if I only wrote Cillian’s best movies and best performance without mentioning Cillian’s Not So Good Movies (as for acting, I still haven’t seen his bad acting yet…he still has perfect acting for me).
Here are all his movies: (Red ones means I haven’t seen it yet)
- 1998: The Tale of Sweety Barrett as Pat the Barman
- 1999: Sunburn as Davin McDerby , The Trench as Rag Rockwood
- 2001: On the Edge as Jonathan Breech; How Harry Becames a Tree as Gus; Disco Pigs as Darren/”Pig”
- 2002: 28 Days Later as Jim
- 2003: Intermission as John; Girl with a Pearl Earring as Pieter ; Cold Mountain as Bardolph
- 2005: Batman Begins as Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow; Red Eye as Jackson Rippner; Breakfast on Pluto as Patrick “Kitten” Braden
- 2006: The Wind That Shakes the Barley as Damien O’Donovan
- 2007: Sunshine as Robert Capa; Watching the Detectives as Neil
- 2008: The Dark Knight as Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow; The Edge of Love as William Killick
- 2009: Perrier’s Bounty as Michael McCrea
- 2010: Peacock as John/Emma Skillpa; Hippie Hippie Shake as Richard Neville; Inception as Robert Fischer ; Tron: Legacy as Edward Dillinger, Jr.
- 2011: Retreat as Martin; In Time as Timekeeper Raymond
- 2012: Red Lights as Tom Buckley; The Dark Knight Rises as Dr. Jonathan Crane

The first plan was to write a Top-5…BUT I find it sooo difficult to come up with 5 movies by Cillian that I am not too keen about. In the end, I can only come up with 3 movies.
Here are the three movies I am too keen about (the movie in number one is in fact one I really hate). I am excluding his cameo appearances such as in Cold Mountain, Tron, TDK and TDKR.
#3 The Edge of Love
The Edge of Love is not a bad movie…it’s just me!! It is TOTALLY NOT MY KIND OF MOVIE! I just don’t get movies about women fighting over one man when there is another kind and good looking man around.
I saw this movie years ago, before I was turned into a Cillianiac…seeing this movie only confirms me that Cillian Murphy is incredibly gorgeous…the movie itself incredibly bored me. While watching it, I kept saying ‘what is this movie?’ The man those two ladies loved isn’t THAT loveable. Till this day, even though I haven’t reviewed the movie I still have no will to rewatch it.
I will watch it again one day and review it…and when that time comes, I can assure you the review won’t be pretty and it will only be because Cillian is so darn gorgeous, just look at the screencap below 😉

#2 The Girl With a Pearl Earring
BORIIIIIIIING. I am not saying the movie is bad, but it is more like ‘it’s SO not my kind of movie’. The only good part of this movie is the 3 C : Cillian Murphy, Colin Firth and Cinematography. The cinematography was amazing. My review is here.
I have cut the movie into only Cillian’s scenes but the quality is not good 😦 I am still looking for a good video cutter that will not change the quality of the video being cut. Cillian was brilliant here, he even practiced to be a butcher despite the fact he is a vegetarian.
Unfortunately, Cillian has a bad wig day in this movie 😉 I don’t think I will ever rewatch this movie…I will only see the edited version.

#1 In Time
The sentence “not too keen about” is not appropriate for this movie as I really hate it! Maybe I wouldn’t hate it that much if I am not ‘forced to see it’. I can tell whether I will dislike a movie or not just by looking at its trailer…and I know since the time I read In Time synopsis that I will not like it, the trailer only confirmed it even more…BUT Cillian is in it which means I HAD to watch it. And I was right, I dislike the movie!! I hate it because I have to see it. Cillian was awesome there, one of his sexiest look but I still can’t rewatch the movie till this minute.
I am still looking for a good video cutter where I can cut the whole movie and only leave the parts where my dearest Cillian in on it…only then I will rewatch the movie.
My only hope is for Cillian never to play in such cheesy plot like In Time ever again. But I wouldn’t mind seeing him in leather jacket looking so cool again 😉

Now, off to the news 🙂
According to Indiewire, Cillian will play a movie called Cry/Fly with Jennifer Connelly (the wife of my other favorite actor, Paul Bettany) and Melanie Laurent. It will be directed by Claudia Llosa, a Peruvian director making her debut in English speaking movie.
The story is : (Copied from Indiwire)
Jennifer Connelly, who, between this and “Noah,” seems to be coming back into the spotlight, will star as the mother of a girl “who is terminally ill. A dramatic event separates the mother from her sick daughter and falcon-keeper son, and 20 years later, the son is persuaded by a journalist to embark on a search for his now-famous mother.” The supremely underrated Cillian Murphy will play the grown-up version of her son with “Inglourious Basterds” and “Beginners” actress Melanie Laurent landing the journalist role.
Can’t say much about the upcoming movie for now…I hope it’ll be something that will show Cillian’s true talent in acting 🙂
Say something so I know you have read my post, THANK YOU for reading :)
