10 Movie Facts About Me (Meme)

I was tagged by Olive on this meme about 10 Movie Facts About Me (Meme)

1. My 1st experience of going to the cinema was when I was still a toddler and the movie was Superman 2.

2. I try to watch every movie staring Keanu Reeves, Tom Hank, Cillian Murphy, Moriyama Mirai, Nakama Yukie and Sandra Bullock. Or/and movies based on Stephen King’s book.

3. I like all animations by Ghibli Studio far more than any Disney’s animations.

4. I avoid watching Horror movie in cinema, I prefer watching it alone or with 2-3 people who don’t like to scream.

Reason: It might sounds cruel but I can’t help it, I really enjoy seeing people scream while watching horror movie. I watch a horror movie alone, got spooked by it and bring them to my friend’s house/ to my school and ask my student to watch it together…and them I would laugh out loud when they start screaming. I find it funny because I don’t scream when I watch horror movie. And that’s why I don’t go to cinema to watch horror movie, I feel like watching comedy rather than horror.

5. Hollywood’s horror movie NEVER successfully spooked me, but there is one American movie that manages to spook me, The Blairwitch Project.

6. I enjoy Japanese Movies as much as western movies (from Hollywood or British)

7. I like movie with lots of blood (BUT I don’t like slasher movies) such as Saving Private Ryan, District 9, Ninja Assassin (great effect on blood and flying body parts but hideous story), Japanese Samurai movies, etc.

8. I like movie that keeps me thinking till the end.

9. I rarely watch my own country’s movies … Sorry … to all Indonesia movie makers, please make movies with better story and better visual effect.

10. I’m a visual/special effect freak! Give me a movie with great effect and I’ll watch it, tho it doesn’t mean I’m going to like the story. Take example of Avatar, I think the effect is AMAZING but the story is SO guessable, if it’s not because of its visual effect I wouldn’t even think of watching it in the first place.

Hehe reading my 10 facts on movie makes me think that I don’t sound like a woman at all!!! I enjoy horror, Blood and Visual effect too much…shouldn’t a woman enjoys romance more?? Well that’s what I am 🙂

Don’t think a woman has to like romantic films…if horrors are your thing, then it’s all good:)

I can enjoy romantic movie if it’s a bit unusual or romantic comedy.

Well my students think I have an unusual taste for a woman hehe…but as you said as long as I like, the it’s all good 🙂

I love Studio Ghibli too! The last one I saw was Totoro. Glad to see you picked our Cillian Murphy 🙂 You’re right about the visual effects – I remember reading an interview with Tim Burton, where he said that visuals are the most important thing in cinema and that the plot is a secondary factor. I’d agree, some films need to be made just for the visual delight!

Ah Totoro makes me want to have a Cat-car 😉 I haven’t watched Ponyo yet…I’m still looking for it.

Our Cillian Murphy?? Are you Irish?

Fortunately Tim Burton has both qualification, good visual followed by good story. Lately I’ve seen more movies that only rely on their visual 😦

Having just read a review my Friend Ronan did on Alice, which wasn’t complimentary in the slightest (coming soon on Filmplicity), I am tempted to agree that visuals are important.

However, going by the last few Burton films I’ve seen, I’d say its pretty plain that he does indeed place little importance on story, character, plot development etc.

Watching a Tim Burton film is a bit like making unleavened bread, all the ingredients are there, but it just doesn’t stand up.

I kinda like his Sweeney Tood…that’s very unusual. I agree on the Alice, but it’s Disney’s movie after all…it has to be a happy story or children won’t watch the movie

          April 23, 2010

True, I haven’t seen Alice, so I can’t comment on it too much, but nothing about the trailer made me want to see it. I could probably say the same about the last couple of Burton films.

I want to like him, but he just keeps disappointing me.

I like Burton but I can’t say I am a fan. I like his works here and there and I can understand why some people don’t like him.

What do you think about Spielberg? he is my fav director/producer >> great visual, great story…almost all the time

Nice list. I too would FAR rather watch a decent Asian movie than the majority of Hollywood stuff. Just put my one up on the site if you want to check it out.

    • Novroz
      April 20, 2010

Yeah…Asian has rather unusual, but in a good way, story. The last Japanese Movie I’ve watched, Goemon, is nothing compare to Avatar & Ninja Assassin in term of visual…but in term of story, Goemon is above those 2.

I will, of course, check your post 🙂

Yeah that big umbrella…You make me want to watch it again.

Yeaaaa…another Irish 🙂 I bet you are proud to have so many great actors from your country and most of them are so down to earth

EEKS your #1 list leaves something to wish… I mean, Keanu Reeves??? :\ LOL But it’s fun to read about your movie preferences!

    • Novroz
      April 21, 2010

haha what’s wrong with Keanu Reeves?? I know his acting is so so…but in my eyes he is the most handsome man alive right now 🙂

My favorite actors stand like this: Keanu Reeves because of his good look, Tom Hank because of his amazing acting talent and Cillian Murphy because of his amazing acting talent and good look 🙂 … it makes Cillian Murphy as the winner hehe. All these actors are so down to earth…I hate snob actors

Thank you for commenting gnoe 🙂 I didn’t know you like movie or not so I was fighting my self either to tag you and tanabata in this meme or not…in the end I chose those people whom I know for sure love movie.

        April 29, 2010

That’s fine Novroz, no need to fret 😉 I think we just have completely different taste in men — I think Keanu Reeves is really creepy! Okay, thee *might* be worse people to look at, but still 😉

I have to admit that I never heard of Cillian Murphy before… (please do not hit me now! 😉

        • Novroz
          April 29, 2010

Huahaha if you think Keanu is abit creepy, then Cillian Murphy will definitely haunt you…because a lot of people think he is creepy. He is really good in acting and make a convincing bad guy.

I won’t hit you, not many people know him, he is after all Irish not American…so no surprise there if you don’t know him. Tho it’s a shame that some actors who can’t act are more famous than the brilliant Cillian Murphy

Hey Novroz, fun list! Hey we have a Superman connection, I think I saw that in the theater too. My uncle finally bought me the VHS of Superman II because I rent it sooo many times, too bad they haven’t been able to make a decent Superman flick since, Superman Returns was ok but nowhere close to the Chris Reeve’s version. I’m with you on #9, never had any interest on it (neither the films nor the stars) even when I was living there.

I don’t mind Keanu either, though I can’t say I like him in every films. He’s quite good in a small romance flick called A Walk in the Clouds, and of course he’s perfect as Neo in The Matrix. Like him in Speed, too.

    • Novroz
      April 22, 2010

Yeah Superman was classic…I rarely have interest on Superhero anymore..but at that time, Superman was really cool to watch, and may add that C. Reeves is my 1st celebrity crush.

Hehehe poor Indonesian Movies..at least I know some people who love them. I occasionally watched some of them on TV. Ah talking about the stars…I’m with you in this!! I have no favorite when it comes to Indonesian movie stars.

Yeaaa….Keanu is perfect for Neo…no one else can be Neo better than him!! Sometimes he can really act too, his best act was in The Gift.

I just watched the Richard Donner cut of Superman II. Man, oh man, again I was blown away by how gorgeous Chris was, especially in the scene where he tells his father he wants to marry Lois (lucky girl!!) He makes even Brandon Routh looks like some guy on the street, but Chris is more than a pretty face, too, he’s actually a pretty good actor. He’s great in other non_Superman roles like Somewhere in Time, etc.

Y’know the only Indo actor I find remotely attractive is the guy in Ada Apa Dengan Cinta, Nicolas something, I forgot the name. But only in that movie, and I think I like him because his character isn’t cheesy.

    • Novroz
      April 24, 2010

Whatever happen to Brendan Routh anyway??

Yeah Chris can act!! Too bad he has to stop acting so soon. My students once told me how cute Brendon is and I was like ‘Chris is more handsome and more like a man than Brandon’

Aaa. Nicholas saputra…yup he is cute and quite good in acting. I used to like Tio Pakusadewo, he is the type that does not look handsome but charming
