BTT : Blurb

Something I’ve been thinking about lately: “What words/phrases in a blurb make a book irresistible? What words/phrases will make you put the book back down immediately?”

Hmm….it got me thinking. I have to check someone else’s answer before answering it my self.

The word that will get me into reading a certain book will be ‘Mystery‘ ‘Horror’ ‘Magical world’ ‘True Story’ ‘Mysterious murder’ ‘Science’ ….hmmm I guess that’s all I can think right now. Mostly words that going to increase my curiosity.

The words that will make me avoid book will be ‘romance’ ‘love through time’ ‘chick lit’ ‘spiritual journey’ (this word is the reason why I haven’t finished 5 people you meet in heaven).

But…sometimes I just picked a book up based on instinct despite of whatever word written on the cover

I would definitely be intrigued by ‘mysterious murder’ but ‘true life story’ sometimes puts me off.

I think I’m with novelinsights. I can’t do the “true story” bit. I do love Mystery and Science, though!

I don’t like anything related to murder either, but like you say, sometimes I will pick a book up I wouldn’t normally choose to read.

Mystery, magical world, and horror work for me too. I can’t do true story though — sometimes they just make me sad.

I, too, would be more likely to pick up a book that had “mysterious murder” than one that had “romance” in the blurb. Hm…I wonder what that says about us? 🙂

    Novroz’ Answer
It would say that we enjoy romance in real life not in the book and we prefer murder to stay in the book … hehe

I think I’m in the minority with my Spiritual Journey books. LOL!

    I finally finished it yesterday…I agree with you, it’s a 2 stars book for me…something I wouldn’t read again
