BTT: Fantasy and Science Fiction

One of my favorite sci-fi authors (Sharon Lee) has declared June 23rd Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers Day.

As she puts it:

So! In my Official Capacity as a writer of science fiction and fantasy, I hereby proclaim June 23 Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day! A day of celebration and wonder! A day for all of us readers of science fiction and fantasy to reach out and say thank you to our favorite writers. A day, perhaps, to blog about our favorite sf/f writers. A day to reflect upon how written science fiction and fantasy has changed your life.

So … what might you do on the 23rd to celebrate? Do you even read fantasy/sci-fi? Why? Why not?

I don’t know what I will do to celebrate it….maybe I will write about the authors that I like…I never write about them before…just their books.

Do I even read it?? OF COURSE!!

Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Horror are my favorites, they force me to do an active imagination and that really thrills me. I never read romance novel because I find it lack of imagination. I like challenging my brain and mind to create this new world the writer is talking about.

Have you ever read The Lord of The Rings?? JRR Tolkien is a genius, the world he created was so beautiful and mesmerizing, fortunately the movie was also very good, every time I read the book (I’ve read it 3 times and planning on doing it for the 4th time soon) I felt like standing in Middle Earth. JK Rowling also create a great world (too bad the series ended badly), but I enjoy creating that imaginary world in my head.

As for Science Fiction…Hey I love all Michael Crichton’s books…I’ve read The Lost World 5 times, every single details he made on extinction theory is more interesting than my science class. And remembered every detail about gorillas and chimps on Congo. I find science fiction as a way to enhance my thirst over science and technology in a fun way. I wish there are more writers like Crichton, Dan Brown’s Digital Fortress is so not interesting.

So…why do I read Fantasy and science Fiction?? Because there are a lot of fun in those books

How bout you ?

  1. I’m more of a fantasy reader than a sci-fi reader, but that does not mean I will shun away from them. Sci-fi movies are great though!

    I love sci-fi movie too 🙂

If you wanna try sci-fi someday…start with Cricthon!!

  2. For epic fantasy, you should check out Jordan’s Wheel of Time or Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.

    Novroz’ answer
Okay, i’ll check it…thx for the recommendation 🙂

  3. As much as I love The Lord Of The Ring movies, I don’t think I could sit and read the book. I might have to try it but I don’t think the book would hold my interest like the movie.

  4. My daughter has to read a Michael Crichton book over the summer for a chemistry class!

    Novroz’ Answer
Chemistry?? which book is it?? Maybe something I haven’t read

  5. They have to read State of Fear. Not sure if or how that fits in with chemistry since I haven’t read anything by Crichton

    Novroz’ Answer
State of Fear…I haven’t read that one…maybe it is mainly about chemistry…I have to check it out then

  6. Hmm, can’t say I’m a fan of anything to do with Dan Brown, but I used to read Michael Crichton’s books like crazy, when I first discovered his works. Congo was the first one I read, and he had me hooked.

    Novroz’ Answer
    Me too….But I haven’t read them all…one book at a time

  7. Though I have read Tolkien’s works and love how detailed he is about his works, it’s those details that sometimes bore me haha. I enjoyed the movies & the books.

There’s a lot of good romance writers out there who create worlds that are quite as good but possibly in a different kind of way. I guess it just depends on who is reading. Besides, its not like there’s no romance in fantasy and sci-fi too. 🙂

    Novroz’ Answer
there’s always romance in all kind of books…but that’s fine. What I never read is the book dedicated completely to romance like those harlequem stuff or Danielle Steel

  8. Although I’ve been reading SF/F for years, I have yet to read Tolkien or Asimov. It’s almost embarrassing- haha. I will get to them, eventually.

Say something so I know you have read my post, THANK YOU for reading :)
