A Random Blog of Everything I like
This is the third time I watch Great Teacher Onizuka. The 1st was in junior or senior high, it was dub. The 2nd was by borrowing my friend’s DVD somewhere in early 2000. And the third was 2 days ago, this time it was my own DVD ^_^.
GTO is a dorama based on manga. There is also the animation version which came out before the dorama version. The story is about an unlikely teacher who inspires both students and teachers.
Onizuka Eikichi played by Soromachi Takeshi ) was a bad student who never really paid attention to school…but when he became older, he wanted to be nothing but a teacher.
Onizuka applied to Musashi Seirin Academy just to get rejected right away due to his appearance and unsatisfying academic record. He made it worst by kicking the Head Teacher for saying Kuzu (Eng: Trash) to his students…Onizuka hated teacher who always said that their bad students is nothing but society trash. His action became the basic hatred of all teachers but Rijichou (school Director) saw it differently. She hired him and hoping that this unlikely teacher could change the school.
Onizuka was placed as Tannin (Homeroom Teacher) in 2 nen D kumi (Class 2D). The class contain misbehave students who always tried to find ways to get rid their homeroom teacher. Onizuka managed to steal his students’ heart one by one in his own way. He tried to solve the problem of a broken home girl (Mizuki Nanako), make an arrogant smart boy to see things beyond his arrogance (Kikuchi Yoshito), help an Ijimerareko (bully) to become braver (Noboru), help an unconfident girl becomes confident (Nomura Tomoko), show how not to turn into bad grown up (Chikako n erika), show that not all teachers cannot be trusted (Murai Kunio n Aizawa Miyabi) and many other things.
He didn’t only have good impact on students but also on other teachers…most of them hated him at first but in the end they came to their senses and became a better teacher. The only teachers on Onizuka’s side were Fuyutsuki Azuza and Fujitomi Sensei.
Some of the lines that I like are :
“School is the place to have fun…I never realized it back them, but when they kicked me out of school I realized that School is fun and that’s why I wanna be a teacher” -Onizuka
“He showed me the wonderful joy of being teacher” – Fuyutsuki
What I like the most about Onizuka is that he never tried to kiss his students’ ass, when those students hate him, he simply let it be and wait for the right time to show them that he is worthy as teacher. Besides that, he and I have the same desire, we want to be teacher forever.
GTO has the same basic idea as Let’s Go to School and Gokusen, but all three of these doramas have different approach and different problem…That’s why I like them all.
PS. Too bad I haven’t seen teacher as handsome as him, I’ve seen Beautiful teachers but never seen handsome teacher L
