Gelar Jepang UI 08

Trus gw ketemu Pipit n Nufa. Sayang ga liat dr awal…Ojiisantachi, itsuka mou utaimasu onegaishimasu, ojiisantachi ga mou ichido mitai dakara.

Mereka ngebawain LIES N TRUTH nya Larc…huaaa gw n nina menggila nyanyi keras2…walopun voknya ga sebagus voknya Reveille tapi gapapa de http enak didenger selama larc, pake string pula.

Hehehe.

Yosh…thn depan dtg lagi (^_^)/

    Sorry sensei i’ll continue my japanese related comment on XII IPA 1 here….

    previously You wrote:
    yup, I’ve already read it…too bad it does contain The Japanese words for each kanji….all Kanjis were reperesent only by it’s meaning :(.

    You think so huh? Just like i guessed.

    Actually sensei, the main purpose of the book is to introduce kanji one by one systematically by certain order. By order, I don’t mean the stroke order, but the order of appearance in the book, determined by each kanji’s index number. This order and the keywords selection has been carefully thought by the authors (beside the keywords, this order of appearance is what actually the book offers to the readers. Don’t mind the story, they’re sucks anyway). It is designed to build your “kanji awareness” all the way from the scratch. What i mean by awareness is the ability to recognize even slight difference on seemingly similar looking kanjis, let alone the unique kanji. That way, you’ll be able to recognize and write them on the go.

    Some people are disappointed because it don’t teach you kanji ‘reading’, and just like what you say, it don’t even give us example Japanese words, which we can use readily. It JUST give us the kanji, the keyword (actually this keyword sometimes quite far from the actual meaning of the kanji), the story, and the index number i mentioned before. I don’t think that is a shortcoming tough, because it let us focus on learning to recognize the character it self first. Once a character and its keyword had been learned, you can start learning the reading and the words it form (alone or in combination with other kanji) almost automatically when you unintentionally encounter the words on reading material, TV, J-POP lyrics, or even some posters on Dorama scene. Just like when we learned english while watching Oprah or reading english version of Harry Potter. But what if you had not learned the character first? You might be able to read the kanji for “benkyou”, “daijyoubu”, or “aru” because they appear frequently on reading material, but can you write them? or can you tell if a stroke has been removed or replaced by similar looking stroke? what about other kanji that unfortunately don’t appear to often, should we just overlook them? even native japanese face this problem. That’s why Heisigh focus on this most critical problem first.

    Now, what’s left is the story. The reason i asked you if the book sounds weird, is this whole lotta stories. The story serves as a device to associate kanji character with its unique keyword, in order to ease the memorizing process ( some people call it mnemonics). It is undoubtfully necessary. Unfortunately, from my personal opinion, Heisigh’s stories are sometimes awfully weird. It’s true that the weirder the story, the more it will attached on your memory. But Heisigh story sometimes overly archaic, biblical, and only refer to some refference that only his childhood friend will know ^_^. If you find the stories is strange, please consult RevTK site (the link is on my previous comment). On the site provided a lot of stories invented by the readers, there always be a good one, even better than the one invented by Heisigh. That way it won’t hinder you from using the method.

    Last but not least. The book alone won’t enough, believe me. All the link I provided on my previous long comment are ALL necessary. Do you remember about our friends Anki and Wakan? If you don’t use them, the book is as good as useless.

    Please let me know your progress with the book if you’re interested in using it. Ja ne!

    If I could printe the book…I’m sure it’ll be easier. I could write the japanese words next to its kanji.

    reading from a computer is not really interesting you know!!

    tokorode, anata no nihongo wa honto ni sugee nee, benkyou wa dou suru?

    Nina, oboete desu ka? kanojo wa saikin JF ni keterima (shiranai) dakedo atashi wa 3kai tesuto o ngikutin (mou shiranai)…failed all 3 of them T.T

    mmm… sensei, u don’t need to write the actual “Japanese words” (u don’t even need to know them yet, but it’s okay if you already do). Just concentrate on internalizing ALL the kanji into your subconscious memory first.

    Yeah, reading directly from computer might not be everyone preference. Fortunately, i’m one of those people that prefer to refrain from reading printed material (almost all my collage textbook are in the form of ebook), and use computer for granted. But, nevertheless, IF you’re into the method I use, u’re gonna use computer a lot, because, u see, Anki and Wakan are both in the form of software.

    Thx sensei, but i do realize that my japs is still far from “sugee”. My ultimate learning strategy is to hear, watch, and read A LOT of japanese, whether it is from anime, manga raw, websites, podcast, game, dorama, anything and reflect on them. That way i try to develop a sense of native sounding Japanese. I never done such thing like setting a target to memorize a number of Japanese word a day (but maybe it’ll be better if i do), i know i’m not good at keeping scheduled commitment like that. I just take the fun path. I sometimes check japanese grammar book, just to confirm some grammar point that i hear frequently. As for kanji, unfortunately i’ve yet found any better method than heisigh’s.

    by the way sensei, i’m wondering how do people who go to collage like “sastra Japang UI” learn japanese, especially kanji. I never have any idea how they do things there and what method they use. I’m just curious. have any idea?

    Nina san ni omedetou gozaimashita! sensei mo ganbatte ne!
    Demo, JF wa nani deshou ka?

    @ミスターエックス:
    Thank you ^^. JF is a foundation under the Japanese government that promotes the Japanese culture/language/study internationally (or so I think).

    @Novi:
    So she gets into JF’s Japanese course too? What level? They put me in 上級1 (Advanced 1). Padahal pinginnya sih intermediate aja, huhuhuw… Btw do you still visit JF’s library often?

    Sensei, ohishashiburi..
    Few days ago, while surfing the net, I stumbled upon this guy named Agro who seems like dedicating every single day of his life to learn Japanese. I guess you might wanna know. So, please check out his site:
    http://www.aguro.net/

    Yes, he’s actually an Indonesian! Reading his blog makes me feel like what i’ve been doing all this time was just a mere child play. Man, this guy is a real deal. He has ton of japanese language learning method up his sleeve. We sure could learn a thing or two from him.
