This is the second Cillian Murphy related post, despite the fact I have pledged to write only 1 post a month when I started Monthly Murphy…but sometimes I couldn’t help to publish more posts on this most gorgeous man on earth, especially around his belated birthday.
One of my favorite sites, The Cillian Site, is hosting a very wonderful event to celebrate Cillian’s birthday this coming May 25.
Here’s a glimpse of the event:
As you probably know, Cillian will be turning the big 3-6 on 25 May. We would like to invite all of you to participate in creating a one-of-a-kind birthday gift that will (hopefully!) be presented to Cillian in London next month. What we need from you is an email to editors@cilliansite.com containing the following: your favorite photo of Cillian, your favorite Cillian quote, favorite role, and something about yourself, i.e. how you became a fan and why, your country of origin, a photo of yourself if you would like, etc. These pages will be printed and bound in a beautiful book. The more the better!

This month’s Monthly Murphy is dedicated to my friend, Wulan at Nerd in writing. She was recently writing a short story borrowing Cillian’s name. In that story, there was an Angel of Death who had an appointment with Cillian’s grandma.
Her story reminded me of this short film by Cillian Murphy, At The Death’s Door.
The Story is about the son of the Reaper who had failed doing his job, instead of killing someone he ended up saving that person. It happened because of a man who somehow could see him.
What”s so interesting about this short is the fact that Cillian did not say anything throughout the movie…he relied on his face expression, an expression that tells a thousand words. Funny enough, I find the constant talking man as a boring character and yet the one that didn’t say anything makes the film watchable.
Yeaaa….we finally reached the last post on Mr. Cillian Murphy for this month
As I have said earlier this month, I have 3 posts prepared for Cillian as a celebration for his birthday which is in May 25, 1976. Lots of gratitude will be given to some of my most outstanding movie blogger’s friends.
But first, This my photoshop edited picture of Cillian Murphy
My first post was my selection of his top-5 movies. I made 2 kind of top-5 list, one for the story line of the movie and the other one for his outstanding performance.
Earlier this morning, I have written a letter to him…I know he will never read it but nevertheless I really enjoyed writing it
Dear Mr. Murphy
First of all, I would like to say Happy 35th Birthday.
I know that this letter of mine most likely never going to be read by you, but I think writing a letter to you on your birthday is the best way to celebrate your birthday. It has been such great journey to have known you for several years.
In my eyes, you are the most gorgeous man on earth and one of the most (few) dedicated actors I have ever known.
I have asked around, although not as many as most people who usually held a blogathon event because I was too lazy and not sure whether they would participate or not. Not many people know Cillian Murphy and not many people have time to write on his behalf. I am forever grateful to these fantastic people: Read more of this post

I should thank Christopher Nolan for introducing you to me, he was the one who had eagerly cast you as Dr. Jonathan Crane despite the fact that he had already prepared that role for someone else. You are the most beautiful villain I ever laid my eyes on. However, a big hug should be given to Daniel Boyle as he was the one who gave you that role as Jim, a super cute zombie fighter.
I know that upon reading that, you will think that I love you for your physical appearance only. But…I can guarantee you that it’s not just your physical beauty that attracts me. I admit that you have the most gorgeous blue eyes I have ever seen, along with everything else on your face that supported the gorgeousness of your eyes. Read more of this post
After a whole year of reviewing each Laruku’s album, patiently writing about it per month with or without any people reading it….I finally reach the last album, KISS, the last before they released their newest one this year. I’m impatiently waiting for that new one to be released.
Unlike most bands I like, Laruku keeps on making better and better album as they get older. KISS is one of their best albums. KISS is an amazing record as it full of emotional songs. The first time I heard it, I was blown away, they went back to their original root. KISS sounds like Dune (their 1st album) with a touch of their new style of music. Each songs has its own sounds that differs it from the other song, they sounds more complicated and deeper than before. It didn’t take a second replay to fall in love completely to this album.
This album was released in November 21, 2007 (3 long years ago, God how I miss them so much. Dear L’Arc~en~Ciel, please don’t delay your new album any longer!!). I have reviewed the album a day before it was officially released because I downloaded it before I bought it, I couldn’t wait for my order to arrive 2 weeks later. But, the review was in my native language.
There are 5 singles and 5 PVs (promotional Video) for this album. Link was released right after AWAKE, they even included Link in their Awake Tour. Then, they released Seventh Heaven, My Heart Draws a Dream, Daybreak’s Bell (also used as an opening song for Gundam animation), and Hurry Xmas. KISS also has a very interesting promotion poster
Before I write my thought on Kiss, L’Arc~en~Ciel’s 11th album, I need to step back a little to note down the second break taken by all the member of Laruku. The break took place in between Awake (released in June 22 2005)and Kiss(released inNovember 21 2007, but the first single for this album was released in31 May 2007)
Their solo project on their first break can be read here.
In This second break, Hyde produced a solo album called Faith. The album was released in April 26, 2006. It was preceded by the released of 2 singles, Countdown (October 5, 2005) and Season’s Call (February 22, 2006). I really like Season’s Call and the PV is also interesting because Hyde looks extremely young for a man aged 38. I’m not too fond with Countdown.
After the much disappointing album, SMILE, Laruku released one of the best albums in their history. As I said before, people who know Laruku in SMILE era might think that SMILE was really good but for people who had loved them before SMILE, that album is one of their weakest albums. Fortunately, they make it up by making an amazing album like AWAKE.
All 12 songs in AWAKE has its own marvel. None of the song is skip-able for me, I love all the songs in this album. The cover of the CD is also awesome, in emboss silver color, I was fortunate to get the Japanese version of this album because it is waaaay more beautiful than the Indonesian version . Awake is released in June 22, 2005.
There are 4 PV/singles from this album, New World, Jojoushi, Killing Me and Jiyuu e no Shoutai. Only Killing Me’s PV that feels a bit weird for me, the other videos are great.
Now, let’s talk about the songs:
New Word
Lyric by Yukihiro, Music by Hyde & Yukihiro
I love New World. The first time I heard it, I fell in love with it straight away. I used this song for my mobile phone’s ring tone for several months. New world is a powerful song that can easily make me jump along the song. Hyde sings in high note most of the time, unfortunately due to his age, he often lower it during live performances. The most dominant sound in this song is Tetsu’s bass and Yuki’s drum. I never thought that this song is made by Yuki because it is unlike his other songs.
My favorite line:
Togisumashita tsubasa hiroge
Kaze wo atsume tobidate
Abareru kodou toki wo koete hibike
I’m awakening in the new world
Smile is an album that I considered as a long awaited album. Real was released in August 30, 2000; they held a lot of concerts during the year. Somewhere in 2001, everyone started getting busy with their individual works. Somewhere in 2001, I discovered this amazing band. People told me that I was a bit late because they have already disbanded the band. It was such a devastating-news for a new devoted fan like me.
Fortunately, somewhere in 2003, good news reached my ears. They were getting back together again to record a new album. Their solo projects were merely their way of having a break after being together for so long.
In March 31, 2004; they finally released their 9th album, SMILE. Smile came out in limited editions. I was lucky to get my hand on one of those limited editions. The Limited editions consist of 1 CD and 1 DVD, the CD is colored yellow while the DVD is colored pink. The DVD is showing the making of the album plus their 1st performance singing their 1st single from SMILE. It was really funny seeing Hyde forgot the lyric.
