5 Movies I Have Rewatched So Many Times

Click this button to read more post on my Top-5 list

This month’s top 5 is inspired by my fellow movie blogger, the successful Scott at Front Room Cinema. He had these mumbling posts which always have great idea to mumble. At first, I wanted to do top 3 TV Series but I have been discovering interesting British TV series lately, so I delay that top 5 because it might change after I saw those hilarious series. Scott’s mumble about To Rewatch or Not To Rewatch intrigued me to write this top 5.

I am a re-do person, meaning that I don’t mind re-watching movies or re-reading books up to the point that might turn people to boredom (I will do rereading post next month)…but not me. The reason is not because I want to explore the movie to get into more details…the reason is simply because I love the movies too damn much and I hardly find it boring even after viewing it for so many times.

This will be a list of 4 movies and 1 miniseries that almost feel like a series of movies.

Let’s begin :)

#5 Terminator (1 and 2)

I do not own the movie but TV often rerun it and I always end up watching it when I have nothing to do. Those two movies (ignoring the other 2) are still as amazing as the first time I saw it. It’s like the movies were made nowadays instead of back then in the 80s and 90s.

Top-5 Books of 2011

Click this button to see my other top-5 list

You have seen my top-5 movies of 2011 few days ago….now, it’s time for my top-5 books I read in 2011 :)

My reading record in 2011 was not as good as 2010, I read less books in 2011, but I promise to have a better reading year in 2012. You can see the entire book I have read in 2011 in HERE.

Without further introduction, here are my top-5 books of 2011: (I am excluding Manga)

#5 1984 by George Orwell

A book I read because of Muse. I have heard so much about this book but Muse’s song United State of Eurasia was the one that made me finally decided to read the book. The idea of this book is insane!! It’s amazing how Orwell managed to create such world into something we really believe it could happen.

Summary: 1984 is a dystopia book where people no longer had the privilege to feel. The government controlled everything. The government slogan was WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH Read more of this post

Best 5 Movies I watched in 2011

Click this button to see my other top-5 list

Last year I made top-5 movie of 2010 that I watched in cinema, but I can’t do that anymore this year because of the misfortune event of Indonesian cinema. I am glad I can’t do that anymore because it’s time to have a better version of top-5 movies, it is no longer movies that were released in 2011 but ALL movies I watched in 2011 regardless which year it was first released. I copied this idea from Anomalous Material (unfortunately I couldn’t find the post anymore.)

I watched a lot of movies in 2011, including some re-watched movies, here are the ones I remember:

  • Watashi Wa Kai Ni Naritai – 私は貝になりたい
  • 28 Weeks later
  • Kaze o Mita Shounen – 風を見た少年
  • Buried
  • Black Swan
  • The Golden Compass
  • The Invasion
  • The Storm Riders
  • Scott Pilgrim vs The World
  • Beowulf
  • The King’s Speech
  • Okuribito – おくりびと
  • The Incredible Hulk Read more of this post

5 things/person I am Obsessed with

Click this button to see my other top-5 list

When I like something I like it more than anything and when I hate something I hate it terribly. That is the kind of person I am.

I don’t want to talk about things I hate because it can make people who love what I hate become hurt. I prefer to talk about things I love….or obsess to be more precise. There is always something/someone that I love more than anything in the same category. And the love that I show for them is sometimes, most of the time, a bit not healthy. I admit that.

When I love something, the love is transparently seen by everyone around me.  I am a talk-active person and I love telling about things I love. My real life friends, my internet friends, even my students know my obsession….sometimes I think I talk too damn much  ;)

From this blog, you can see that my blog covers 3 major things; book, movie and music. But I also talk about sport occasionally. In each area, there is always someone/some band/some team that I love so much…and this post is about them.

Well…let’s start!!  You’ll see how obsess I am with them.

#5 Guns N’ Roses

GN’R was the first band I love the most. When I first saw their concert (in beta, there was no DVD back then), their performance awed me. I fell in love instantly, they were amazing!! I was still in my Junior High at that time and living under my parents’ allowance.  I saved my allowance to buy their entire cassettes, Beta-tape, and every magazine that talked about them. My All Time Favorite Dorama (ドラマ) – Japanese TV Series

The original plan was to either write about my top 5 male voice or top 5 American Band. I couldn’t decide which one to write first…however, when Nat remind us that this November Hello Japan Mini Challenge is about top 5 of anything from Japan, I came to a decision that I will do a top 5 Japan related post. The other two top 5 will have to wait till next month.

I know exactly what I want to write for my top 5 from Japan…it’s my favorite Japanese Dorama of all time. I know that this topic probably won’t get many comments sharing their version of top 5 as not many people watch Dorama like I do.

Dorama (ドラマ) actually comes from the word Drama. You can also call it as TV series. Some call it as Japanese Soap Opera, but I refuse to call Dorama as Soap Opera because Dorama never extend to LOOOOOONG episodes like soap opera. Unlike other Asian TV series, such as from Korea or Taiwan, Japanese Dorama rarely extends to more than 12 episodes. There are few Dorama that have more episodes but mostly only until 12 episodes. That short episode is one of the reasons I like Dorama. The other reason is the story, Dorama has wide variety of stories…not merely about love and family conflicts.

My favorites are never about love ;) It is really difficult to choose as I like most Dorama I have seen.

Let’s move on to the list, shall we :) Read more of this post

Top 5 Book Characters in Movies

Click this button to see my other top-5 list

I love book, be it as graphic novel or thick novel. I also love movies. I have special feeling toward movies based on books…it’s either I like it or hate it. The problem with movie is the characters often not as we expected.

There are some actors that can live up to my imagination and there are also some who can’t seem to get it right. I said How I hate Tatsuya Fujiwara in my previous Top-5 post about Actors I Don’t find Appealing, he totally ruin my favorite character in Death Note. When I read Harry Potter 2, I have clear image how Hugh Grant will be perfect as Gilderoy Lockhart because of his annoying smile…but the movie had Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy. I like Kenneth more than Grant but I still think Grant is more perfect as Gilderoy than Branagh. Branagh is a great actor so he can pull it off quite well…not perfect but well enough.

If I want to write about characters that are off the mark, it would be more than 5…therefore, I am here to talk about characters that fit perfectly into my imagination. They are almost flawless. Read more of this post

Actor/Actress I Don’t Get The Appeal For

Click this button to see my other top-5 list

It’s time to continue my 15 questions meme…well at least part of that meme. As I have planned since two months ago, I did top 5 Actor/Actress I Will Always Watch No Matter How Crappy back then…tho it expanded to 6 actors and 1 actress, I will now do top 5 actor/actress I don’t get the appeal and tends to avoid unless the movie is REALLY REALLY good.

I only have actors in this list, the ladies appear in the honorable mention.

There are two reasons for me to find certain actor to be not appealing, one is of course the acting talent and the other is the personality through the tube…or simply I just don’t like him (Yup I am shamelessly saying that I judge the book by its cover).

If your favorite actor is on my list…please don’t be offended because it is simply my honest feeling about them…so let’s still get along with our difference taste or preference :)

#5 George Clooney

They said George Clooney is a great actor, they said he is really handsome…and somehow I don’t see those things in him.

For me, his roles are always the same. I do not avoid his movie, that’s why he is in number 5, but I never find his acting as something great…all are okay to me. None made me start saying ‘wow he is great!!’. He failed so bad as Batman…totally failed. Read more of this post

Top 5 Favorite Female Singers

Click this button to see my other top-5 list

I haven’t done top-5 in music area for few months and I think it’s time to do another one. The last time I did was my top-5 Radiohead’s songs (which were quite difficult to write). I have shared my top-5 British Band in a post called Invasion of the British Bands, I really like those bands from the great Britain. I think it’s fair to share about my favorite female singers now.

I have been a rock music fan since the beginning of time (meaning since the day I love music), it’s not easy for a female singer to capture my attention…and that’s why, in my whole life, I have only 3 favorite female singers, for the rest of the female singers I only like some of their songs. The other 2 singers belong in a band.

Although I titled it as top- 5 female singer, that doesn’t mean it refers to females with the best voices in the world (except for my number one singer, for me she is the Goddess of all female singers). Most of these women are voted because I love their songs and of course their voices. I admit Mariah Carrey has wonderful voice even better than my 2nd female singer, but I do not like her songs (I only like several songs)…and for that she is not in my list.

My list, as always,  is 100% my preference…Do Not Complain and said another female is much better because that’s yours NOT mine. However, I would love for you to share your own version of top-5 female  singer in the comment :)

Now, here are mine: Read more of this post
