Teaser Tuesday & Book in Life as Meme

Today, I am going to do two book memes at the same time :)
One is my usual Teaser Tuesday and the  other is Book In Life.

undefined

Teaser Tuesday is a fun bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Everyone can play along, all you have to do is simply take the book you are currently reading. And then share 2 ‘teaser’ sentences from any page in the book. I often share more than 2 sentences ;)

Please avoid SPOILER!!

I  am currently reading a memoir by K’tut Tantri called Revolt in Paradise. K’tut was a British born American citizen who had spent years in Indonesia during the colonialism of Dutch and Japan and live through the struggling of my people to protect our freedom from being taken away by the Dutch with the help of British army.

Her way of telling Indonesian history was more fun than any textbook I have ever read in school.

Here is my teaser from page 207, the event took place after the continuous bombing by the British Army on a defenseless city called Surabaya. Read more of this post

Please avoid SPOILER!!

I am currently reading Hearts in Atlantis by my favorite author, Stephen King. So far, I enjoyed the first novella so much :)

I love these 2 quotes so much!

From Page 25

“There are also books full of great writing that don’t have very food stories. Read sometimes for the story, Bobby. Don’t be like the book-snobs who won’t do that. Read sometimes for the words – the language. Don’t be like the play-it-safers that won’t do that. But when you find a book that has both a good story and good words, treasure that book.”

 From Page 34

“But what if I don’t like it?”

Ted shrugged. “Then don’t finish it. A book is like a pump. It gives nothing unless first you give to it. You prime a pump with your own water, you work the handle with your strength. You do this because you expect to get back more than you give….eventually. Do you go along with that?”

Bobby nodded.

“How long would you prime a water-pump and flail the handle when nothing came out?”

Looking forward to reading your teaser :)

PS. This is my 950th post \(^^)/

I am currently reading The Little Yokozuna by Wayne Shorey. Although it is said to be a young adult book…but I think it is more like a children  book. It’s about 7 children stranded Japan in different time to their real life.

My teaser is from page  67

“Could you explain that?” Asked Annie.

“The ocean washes  the whole world,” said the old obaa-san, “but if you take your ink brush and write the character for ocean on apiece of rice paper so you can hold it in your hand, can you sail a boat on that piece of paper?”

“I don’t think I  understand,” said Annie.

The Japanese character for Ocean is 海 .

Please avoid SPOILER!!

I am currently reading The X Files book called Antibodies, written by Kevin J Anderson.

I am not a big fan of books from TV Series  or movies…but, X Files is an exception because this  is my all time favorite TVSeries.

My teaser is from Page 46:

She stared down at Ruckman’s open body, unsettled. The tape recorder waited for her to speak again. If the situation was as bad as Scully feared, then they would certainly need much more help than either she or Mulder could give by themselves.

Looking forward to read your teaser :)

I have just finished The 47 Ronin Story by John Allyn. I will write my review tomorrow.

Here is my teaser, from page 69

… I need hardly add that the punishment is death. Let no one have any illusions about that. Whether we commit seppuku by our hands or are crucified by executioner, our ultimate end is to die. This is the band of death, but death with honor!

I chose that teaser because I completely imagine Hiroyuki Sanada (he is going to play as Oishi, the man who said that line)  saying those encouraging words. He has the right charisma to influence people.

Looking forward  to read  your teaser :)

I am glad I have another chance to read Nicholas Jobe‘s unpublished novel :) Nick has a blog called Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob

He is such talented author who hasn’t got opportunity to publish his books yet. My review on his other 2 books can be read here > Shelter and A Whisper Softly

Right now, I am reading his earlier novel called The Most Wonderful Fairy Tale, it’s a fantasy book. the book has no cover yet, this cover is made up  by me.

Here is my teaser from page 15

“Oh, no, lass” the man said shaking his head, grinning and running his hand through his hair. “I’m a tree.”

“A tree?” the young girl questioned, raising her eyebrow

“That’s right.”

“A human tree?”

“An apple tree, actually.”

“But you look like a person.”

“Aye”

“And you have an Irish accent.”

“Odd, that.”

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why do you have an Irish accent?”

“Well, you are gonna be easy.”

“Excuse me?”

“I tell you I’m a tree, and you question my accent.”

Looking forward to read your teaser :)
