An Adventure in Drum Island and a New Crew

To know more about One Piece, click this image :)

I can’t believe my eyes when I looked at my old post about One Piece, the last adventure I wrote here was 2 years ago. I should start writing it all again till it reaches their recent adventure.

Their last adventure was in Little Garden, it was called Little Garden because to two giants living there, the Island was nothing more than a little garden.

The adventure in Drum Island only takes 2 volume as the enemy isn’t strong enough.

After leaving the Island with the help of the two Giants, Burogy and Dorey, they found themselves back on the sea heading to Arabasta to help Princess Vivi stopping the revolution.  But things weren’t as easy as they expected, Nami had high fever, so high she couldn’t move much. Nami kept her illness to herself because she didn’t want to worry Vivi. She read that the rebels was about to start the revolution soon. She must navigate the ship as fast as she could to Arabasta. Books I Have Read in 2011

I am currently re-reading one of the best Japanese literature I have ever read, Battle Royale by Koushun  Takami. I should have finished it last week but something happened that made me unable to read anything for a whole week. I will finish this book in the next few days. But I probably write my second review of this book early 2012.

You can read my first review of Battle Royale here.

I REALLY REALLY love this book, one of my all time favorite books. I enjoy it as much as the first time and I am  sure I will read it again in the future (even though haven’t finished my second read but I already want to read it again)

Now…let’s look back on all the books, mangas and short stories I have read in 2011.

Just like last year and the year before that, I break it down to some categories.

This year (2011) I have read : (you can read my review by clicking on the book’s cover) Read more of this post

The Hunting of The Snark – A Graphic Novel by Miyuki Miyabe

At Christmas Eve, a mysterious girl step into a bar where Shuji worked. After several visits, the girl never visited the bar anymore. Later, he saw her again near a crime scene, a man had just killed himself. Was the girl had anything to do with it? And what was that unusual shadow that kept following her?

About 2 months ago, I was quite surprise to see the name of one of my favorite female authors, Miyuki Miyabe, in a manga called Brave Story, my thought was what was she doing with manga? Later, I found out that there is a novel version of it. I didn’t buy the manga because it was a long volume manga. I have been avoiding buying long volume manga except for One Piece. The manga was drawn by another artist, Miyabe-sensei only wrote the story. Read more of this post

Death Note – an Amazing Mind Battle Between 2 Geniuses

What if you found a note book that belongs to God of Death?
Deep down in your heart…
Is there anyone whose death is in your wish?

As I have said before in my review of 2 Irish ghost stories post, I have been having a readers block. To save me from a total blockage, I decided to pick a manga I really love beside One Piece, that manga is called デノートス  or Death Note in English. Reading this manga is also away to fulfill 3 challenges at once, R.I.P Challenge VI, Manga Reading, and Hello Japan! Mini Challenge. I have written my review in Indonesian language 5 years ago.

Death Note is a manga I chose by instinct. When I was looking for One Piece, I saw a manga with a very intriguing cover. It was a drawing of Ryuuku in front of a cross filled with skeleton. The cover of Death Note volume 3. I had no idea what the story was and I couldn’t find volume 1 and 2. Despite all of that, I bought the manga because I had strong feeling that the manga would turn out to be a great manga. And it was INDEED an amazing manga.

Death Note is a collaboration of Ooba Tsugumi and Obata Takeshi. Ooba –sensei was the one who wrote the story and Obata-sensei was the one who drew the manga. Obata-sensei was known for his details in drawing. His details are crazy!! He even draws a convenient store full with everything in it. Ooba-sensei’s ability in creating mind battle story is a real page turner. When I first read it, I couldn’t wait for the next volume to show up. I checked the bookstore every week wondering has the new one been released yet. This is my third time reading it. Read more of this post

100 Reasons Why I love One Piece – Chapter 1

I have finally finished rereading 59 volumes of the best manga in the world, One Piece. Some people say that One Piece is a crap and this manga is the best or that manga is the best, but for me no matter what people say One Piece is still the best. No other manga managed to make me read it over and over again. No other manga made me hoping that it will never end.

One Piece is the only manga I reread every year, the only manga I hope never ends and the only manga that can keep me more excited as the volume getting longer.

Inspired by Ruth’s 40 reasons why she loves The X Men, I will start writing 100 reasons why I love One Piece. The reasons will include characters and quotes.

Why 100? Because 40 is not enough…and I want this manga to go on and on till volume 100 :)

Writing 100 reasons in 1 single post are impossible …it would be TOO long. For that reason, I will divide these reasons into5 chapters, each chapter consist of 20 reasons.

始めましょう皆さん!!

1. Monkey D Luffy. A crazy and free spirit Captain. Loves adventure and would prefer to sacrifice his life rather than losing his crew.

2.  Roronoa Zoro. A swordsman with great ambition to be the greatest swordsman in the world but willing to sacrifice that ambition out of loyalty to Luffy.

3. Sanji. The coolest member of Mugiwara Kaizoku when he isn’t acting all weird in front of beautiful girls.

4. Tonny Tonny Chopper. The cutest member of Mugiwara Kaizoku. One of my wishes is to have his fluffy doll.

5. Franky. The most hentai (not sure how to translate this to English ) member. He never wears short or pants, always wears underwear. Very sensitive and fast in making something.

Annual One Piece Reread Event – Year 2011

I have been missing several months of my The Amazing World of One Piece monthly post. The reason is quite simple, it is because I restrain my self from rereading the series because I am waiting for this special month…the month where I reread the whole series, from the beginning till the last chapter of this month.

One Piece is a manga series about the power of dream and friendship. I have been rereading the books for years…I have forgotten when I first fell in love with this series, one thing for sure it was after year 2000.

One Piece is written by the talented Eiichiro Oda, he has managed to keep the series away from any trace of boredom. I want this series to go on and on and on till volume 100 and I pray God won’t take Oda-sensei’s life before he finishes the series.

One Piece was first published in August 4, 1997…exactly 14 years ago!! It was published in Weekly Shounen Jump Magazine and up till today it still remains as one of the most look-forward series in the Magazine. I remember reading an article of how so many children who were refugee of Japan Tsunami were sharing 1 magazine to read the newest chapter of One Piece.

Dr. Slump (Volume 1) by Akira Toriyama

Since last month, I have pledged to read at least 1 children book or manga written in Japanese to develop my Japanese skill…which is still rusty. I have read Isshun Boshi last month, and now I chose to read manga from one of my favorite anime. It’s called Dr. Slump (ドクター スランプ) by Akira Toriyama (鳥山明)

Toriyama-sensei is the one who wrote the famous Dragon Ball, the first manga that made me in love with shounen manga (manga for boys). His art can easily be distinguished to other mangaka (manga artist). My most favorite mangaka, Eichiro Oda (the author of Onepiece) used to work with Toriyama-sensei as an assistant.

Dr. Slump is different to Dragon Ball. Dragon ball has continuous story, you need to follow the whole series to get idea of the story. Dr. Slump is more like a sketch, you can start reading it from any volume and stop at any volume you like.

I have watched the anime somewhere in the 90s, but haven’t read the manga yet till today. Dr.Slump is very funny and very interesting manga.  The Japanese is also not too difficult, I can easily follow the story even with some missing Kanji (Japanese characters). I think I will read the 2nd volume next month ;)

The stories revolve around a genius and a bit pervert professor with his creations. Read more of this post
