13 Things About Me and L’Arc~en~Ciel Concert

Today a year ago: The band that I love the most for the past 12 years held an unforgettable concert in my country. A year ago, I have been waiting for them for 11 years.

Today is a very special day for all L’Arc~en~Ciel fans in Indonesia…for us, May 2^nd will forever be Laruku Day…the day where the dream of thousands of their fans in Indonesia came true.

Because today is Thursday, so I think the best way to celebrate May 2^nd is to share a random list of  me and  the most amazing concert I have ever seen in my entire life.

In case you come here from Thursday Thirteen: L’Arc~en~Ciel is a rock band from Japan that I love more than ALL the bands in the world, past present and future.

I LITERALLY cried when I found out that Laruku (shorter way to say L’Arc~en~Ciel) has announced Jakarta as one of the city they will visit on their World Tour.

>> I cried because for the past 11 years I thought they would never come to my country as the promoter always brought western bands, never an Asian band. It was a tear of happiness.

I was in the middle of a meeting with my former boss when my friend texted me that she had bought the ticket for VIP class. When I read that, I couldn’t hear what my boss was talking about and she let me had a moment of joy before continuing the meeting.

12 Years of Love: How L’Arc~en~Ciel (ラルク アン シエル) remains as the best band in my heart for the past 12 years

Happy 12^th Anniversary to me

12 years!!! WOW!! This is by far the longest time I have ever been obsessed with something…12 years and still going strong.

I don’t remember when was the exact date and month when I started loving Laruku more than any band ever exist on earth…but I do remember the year clearly, it was 2001.

I have been in love with Tokusatsu and Anime since I was in elementary school, and then I found Dorama in Junior High…however, I still haven’t heard Japanese Music apart from Anime and Dorama soundtrack. One day, I went to a kind of Japan entertainment convention and saw a poster of Japanese band. Even though I haven’t learned Japanese at that time but I knew enough that Japanese people can’t pronounce foreign language without changing it into Japanese kind of pronunciation. At that time, I was sort of mocking at the poster, I said “Japanese!! They can’t even say that word and they chose that word for their band’s name”. But somehow the name stuck in my head even though I myself didn’t know how to pronounce L’Arc~en~Ciel.

Few weeks later…I saw a video on MTV and I straight away remember that strange name “hey…this is the band with that difficult name!!” and I remembered thinking “They have good tune, I quite like it.” The video was Stay Away and this video is one of my top 5 favorite video by L’Arc~en~Ciel.

Two years ago (2010) this month, I made a list of 5 men worthy to be drooled upon…basically I was just trying to make a list of famous men I adore physically ;)

As time goes, things changed, the list needed an updated version so bad.

Two men are being kicked out of my list this year…I still think of them as my eye candy but not as top 5 anymore the other three remain but the order is changed.

I have to remind you again that this list is HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE!!! Subjective because beauty is in the eyes of the beholder…and in my eyes these five men are superior above other men

This second part of men to drool on consist of : One charismatic vocalist, One with gorgeous eyes, One with sexy biceps, One azzling Brit and One humble hunk.

Songs To Be Expected at L’Arc~en~Ciel Concert, May 2nd.

It is 19 days to the concert I have been waiting for 11 years, the only band I want to see more than all the bands in the world combine into one….yes I love them THAT MUCH!!

As the historical day comes closer, although not fast enough, I have to publish this important post, a post where I share their setlist in every city they performed for their 20th L’Anniversary World Tour. I share the list after the summary and my expectation of songs to be sung on May 2nd.

As you can see, there are 14 songs they always sang in every concert. I have no complain to that list because I like them all (Well…I love ALL their songs). I am glad Revelation always in their list…I really really really want to hear that song and feel the energy when we all can shout ‘hey…hey..hey..‘ and ‘REVELATION‘… I love how great energy that come through that song during all their live show.

20th L’Anniversary Live Viewing – 1 step closer to a 10 year dream

I have loved L’Arc~en~Ciel with all the passion and admiration for over 10 years now (next year will be my 11^th anniversary of loving this amazing band). 10 years have passed without a single thread of hope to ever seeing them live in front of my eyes. All I can do is listening to them through CD and DVD for over than 3650 days …but now, heading to 11 years, I see hope and feel a fresh wind blowing toward us, Cielers Indonesia, that they might come.

I forgot the exact time, probably a month ago, Oishi Masahiro (大石征裕) – Music producer and engineer representative Shi_Gurupu Maverick Dee. Chairman, General Federation of Japan Music production (音楽プロデューサー・エンジニア兼マーヴェリック・ディー・シー･グループ代表。一般社団法人 日本音楽制作者連盟　理事長。) – In short, Laruku’s manager – came to Jakarta. I was wondering whether he had good news or bad news.

Then, to my utter delight, this announcement showed up:

20th L’Anniversary Concert – WOWOW edition

This is going to be my favorite post of this month because I LOVE writing this concert review. It’s been a while since my last concert review. They just had a long break, so not many concert DVD was released in previous years. The latest concert review was Are You Ready? また ハ-ト に火 を つける! In Okinawa.

L’Arc~en~Ciel, the first reason I made this blog and the only band I want to see before I die (meaning that I don’t mind if I can’t see other bands as long as I live if I can see them  at least once). This band has been around for 20 years…quite a long year for a band and hoping that they will never break up. Last May, on 28-29, they held their 20^th anniversary concert which they called as 20^th L’Anniversary….how I love to be there…but I couldn’t (this is the time where I regret I don’t have plenty of money).

If I am not mistaken, it was in 30 May 1991 when they first held their performance in a small club seen only by 120-130 people…and look at them now. 2 days sold-out concert in big arena…what a beautiful scene

They are currently touring around Japan in their 20^th L’Anniversary tour. They will visit Bangkok, London, Paris, and New York next year. I hope they will visit Indonesia, or at least Singapore…I will come and see them if they come to Singapore. I am currently in the process of making a passport in case they decide to perform in Singapore….just to be prepared.

I have missed writing my L’Arc~en~Ciel monthly post for 2 straight months, as their biggest fan I  regret this unnecessary hiatus. I promise NOT to let that happen ever again.

I have been planning to write this post since last month but Time was against me. This month, followed with the next three months,I am going to start a new monthly series. Laruku has been around for 20 years now, quite a long history of music and style. I want to share some of their styles in this past 20 years.

Let’s begin with Hyde.

One post CANNOT cover all his ever changing styles, I am merely covering the outline or the surface of his style. His style will be based upon Laruku’s album period/era.

In the early 90s, Hyde often dressed like a female…and he is much prettier than I will ever be

There were 2 styles of female with long hair in album period of Dune, Tierra and early Heavenly. He had long wavy hair with with renaissance kind of dress in Dune and Tierra and then started having long straight  hair in late Tierra and early Heavenly.
