R.I.P VII – Let’s Start The Peril

Can’t believe it’s already September!! That only means one thing…time for another R.I.P Challenge. As usual, the host is Carl V at Stainless Steel Droppings.

R.I.P stands for R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril, this year is the 7th year …it’s the longest challenge I have ever encountered in blogosphere.

What should we do for this challenge?

The purpose of R.I.P is to enjoy books and movies/television that could be classified (by you) as Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Horror, Supernatural, Or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above.

There are some categories available, you can check it at Stainless Steel Droppings. I am going to do 3 challenges, they are: Read more of this post

It’s June…Time to List My Books

It’s June, the 6th month in a year, we can consider it as the middle of the year. I have too much sadness and excitement this past half year and those two emotions had made me too busy to read…I better get back on track now.

When I look at my bookshelf this afternoon, I realize that I have quite a few books I haven’t read yet and books I haven’t finished yet. Since it is in the middle of the year, maybe this month is the perfect month to do a little cataloging ;)

Here are the books I have read and haven’t finished … yet.

The Wordsworth Collection of Irish Ghost Stories. I haven’t finished it yet because I am taking my time to read each story on its own time. When I bought it, I knew it’ll be a book I will finish in years

Captives in Time by Malcolm Bosse.  The book is not boring, it’s not that exciting either…but the book my friend lent me a couple of weeks ago really intrigued me and made me drop this book for a while. I am still at page 50. Read more of this post

13 Best Stephen King’s Books I Owned & SK Project 2012

Do you know this man?

Well…he is Stephen King, the only author whom all books I want to read. As I have said many times, I know he is not the best writer in the world but he sure is one of the best story teller in the world. You can read my list of SK’s books I have read and to be read in Counting Down Stephen King’s Books.

No need to explain about him because he is already damn famous ;)

This post has 2 purposes for two different blog events.

The first purpose is my first participation in a meme called Thursday Thirteen. I first found this meme in Alice Audrey’s blog. The idea is just to share 13 things every Thursday, the thing can be ANYthing. I am not going to do it every Thursday, only occasionally ;)

My first is to share 13 books by Stephen King that I considered as his best in my collection. I have around 20 books by him with 2 books missing (someone borrowed them and never returned them, I am more careful in lending books that misfortune).

Those books are (in no particular order): Read more of this post

Top-5 Books of 2011

Click this button to see my other top-5 list

You have seen my top-5 movies of 2011 few days ago….now, it’s time for my top-5 books I read in 2011 :)

My reading record in 2011 was not as good as 2010, I read less books in 2011, but I promise to have a better reading year in 2012. You can see the entire book I have read in 2011 in HERE.

Without further introduction, here are my top-5 books of 2011: (I am excluding Manga)

#5 1984 by George Orwell

A book I read because of Muse. I have heard so much about this book but Muse’s song United State of Eurasia was the one that made me finally decided to read the book. The idea of this book is insane!! It’s amazing how Orwell managed to create such world into something we really believe it could happen.

Summary: 1984 is a dystopia book where people no longer had the privilege to feel. The government controlled everything. The government slogan was WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH Read more of this post

Teaser Tuesday & Book in Life as Meme

Today, I am going to do two book memes at the same time :)
One is my usual Teaser Tuesday and the  other is Book In Life.

undefined

Teaser Tuesday is a fun bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Everyone can play along, all you have to do is simply take the book you are currently reading. And then share 2 ‘teaser’ sentences from any page in the book. I often share more than 2 sentences ;)

Please avoid SPOILER!!

I  am currently reading a memoir by K’tut Tantri called Revolt in Paradise. K’tut was a British born American citizen who had spent years in Indonesia during the colonialism of Dutch and Japan and live through the struggling of my people to protect our freedom from being taken away by the Dutch with the help of British army.

Her way of telling Indonesian history was more fun than any textbook I have ever read in school.

Here is my teaser from page 207, the event took place after the continuous bombing by the British Army on a defenseless city called Surabaya. Read more of this post

Musing on Book : Counting Down Stephen King’s Books

I haven’t done this musing post since February 2011 where I talked about the disaster created  by Indonesian  government toward us movie lovers.

Now, I want to muse on books by my number one author, the author who hasn’t disappoint me yet.

As you can see on my side widget, I am currently reading Hearts in Atlantis by the great Mr. Stephen King. I have been a big fan of his works since college…but I finally had chance to continue reading his works after college…that’s why I am still far behind in reading all his works.

Yes….my favorite author is the king of horror, Stephen King. A lot of people tend to look him with one eye and even avoid his works…I don’t care of whatever those people think, for me he remains as one author who hasn’t failed me yet. I know that his works are not always at his best but the best of  him made me forgot all his not so good books. I still haven’t found his bad books yet.

Stephen King is not only writing horror stuffs, some are books with a lot of heart in  it like Green Mile and Different Seasons. Even the horror ones are not always about scaring  people, such as The Stand and Under The Dome…there are a lot of human emotion in it.

My goal is to read ALL HIS WORKS…and here I am counting down the number  of books I can read  in the future. I also want to reread some of them.

There are times when I haven’t  read the book but already watched the movie. I am going to categorized his works based on colors.

  • Blue means I have read it
  • Red means I haven’t read  it yet
  • Purple means I have only watched it
  • Green means I have both read and watched it
  • Strike-through means it’s impossible to find so I don’t put much hope in it.
