El Orfanato – A Beautiful Horror

When my student (He has graduated but I still consider him as my student) told me about a movie called Orphanage, I was curious. He and I have the same taste in horror movies, let’s just say we both like horror movies with good story. Then I heard that it was going to be remade by Hollywood…and I hate remake!! So, I really have to find the movie before it is being remade (not that I ever going to see the remake…but I just want to see the real movie before the remake is out). My feeling toward remakes is same with this quote from director Bayona

“The Americans have all the money in the world but can’t do anything, while we can do whatever we want but don’t have the money” and “The American industry doesn’t take chances, that’s why they make remakes of movies that were already big hits”

And that’s why I don’t watch remakes!! I think Hollywood should start being creative again. I respect originality above everything.

Drive by the news of a remake, I searched for the movie every time I had chance to visit DVD store…Thank God  I finally found it last month and I FREAKIN LOVED IT!!! Really really love it!!!

Rise of The Planet of The Apes

Evolution Becomes Revolution

A story of love and finding where you belong

The plan was to write the review and scheduled it for Monday…but I just remember that I have other thing to write on Monday…so, I wrote and posted my review of Rise of the Planet of The Apes today.

I don’t know if you paid attention to my movie review or not, but if you do you’ll find that some were written in group while few were written as individual post. This difference way of writing happened because this individual post was meant for outstanding movies. So, you can clearly guess how I feel about Rise of the Planet of The Apes.

I have heard about the making of this movie since last year, but I wasn’t that intrigued to see it. And then I saw the trailer, either in Anomalous Material or Hollywood Spy (I no longer sure where), the moment I saw the trailer, I was hooked. I wanted to see it sooo bad even though I wasn’t a fan of The Planet of the Apes (I saw it long time ago, I couldn’t even remember the details anymore, hoping a TVchannel would kindly enough play it again). As I have said it in AM, trailer is a big influence in my way of choosing a movie to watch. Rise of the Planet of The apes has entered my long list of satisfying judgment through trailer.

I add the tagline of the movie with a story of love and finding where you belong because that is how I see the movie.

Okuribito (おくりびと)

Beauty sometimes comes in Death

That was my first impression after watching Okuribito (Departures). I once watch Six Feet Under which is a US TV series about the life of people who runs a funeral house, but I found that series as boring and has no heart at all. With the same theme, Okuribito managed to deliver EVERYTHING…the laugh, the sadness, the beautiful art of sending the dead to the next life, and most of all the heartbreaking moment that everyone must face sometime in this lifetime.

Okuribito was directed by Takito Youjiro. It tells the story of a man named Kobayashi Daigo (Motoki Masashiro) whose dream was to become a professional a cello player but his dream was shattered when the orchestra was disbanded. Along with his wife, they moved from Tokyo to Yamagata. He got the first job he applied in that small town, he was sort of tricked into it. The ad said it was a job dealing with journey…but the journey turned out to be a journey to the next life.

Not ‘helping out journeys’, it’s helping out peaceful departure.
