The Sport Party Is Finally Over – See You Again in 2016

So…the party is finally over. I am going to miss seeing all those sports. It had been such a great fun seeing them competing for their countries.

I am not a sporty girl in a sense that I do a lot of sport…but growing up with all boys in the family shapes my watching preference a bit. I enjoy watching sport since childhood. I have been following Olympic since Atlanta and was captivated by how amazing the moment was. Sport units all nations into one and every athletes are giving their best to make their country proud….I just love seeing that kind of spirit.

Throughout 2012 Olympic, I didn’t exclude any sport at all…I greedily watched whatever TVRI showed us. From wrestle to weightlifting, from swimming to gymnastic, and I even watched the sport I don’t usually watch on daily basis even though it’s on TV all the time…I am talking about football.

Congratulation to Mexico for their gold, Brazil for their silver and Korea for their bronze in men’s football. Japan didn’t get anything there but the lades gave their country silver.

During the last week of Olympic, I was hoping to see more Synchronize swimming…too bad TVRI didn’t show much of it :( . I only saw 2 performances.

The Amazing Lithuanian Men’s Basketball Team ( 2012 Olympic)

Finally…The most exciting basketball game at the 2012 Olympic !!

First of all, thank you TVRI for showing Basketball at 2012 Olympic  even though they only show USA’s dream team. I was hoping for more game beside them but at least they still show it :)

You know I love NBA but when it comes to Olympic, I always cheer the other team. I have nothing against USA, it’s just I hate predictable game (just like I hate predictable movie).

The first game was USA against France. I thought France was going to give hard time against USA but I was disappointed when USA started leaving them behind. France seemed unable to pull themselves together again. I forgot in which quarter I started getting bored. I could see clearly that USA will win and knowing how it would end made me lose interest on the game. I still watched the whole game but without any excitement. The final result was 98-71.

The second was against Tunisia. At first, they looked promising. They hold their score close to USA…but them they started to trail down by over 10 points. And again, I lost interest at the game. The final result was 110-63.

The third game against Nigeria was the worst of all. I saw it a bit late and the difference was already over 20 points. Why bother seeing such predictable game. I turned off the TV without seeing the whole game. The final result (seeing it on the news the next day) was 156 – 73. Lucky I didn’t see such pathetic game.

Tonight… Finally, I can feel the excitement of basketball again. Read more of this post

London Olympic 2012 Is About to Start

Although this blog of mine rarely publish post about sport…but you can still see SPORTS in my category. Writing about sport is not as easy as writing about books, movies and music…but it doesn’t mean that I have forgotten that category.

I don’t remember since when I became an Olympic fan, all I remember is that 4 years ago, I did some short posts on Beijing Olympic. I enjoy watching almost ALL sports in Olympic…whatever sport the TV showed us and if I wasn’t busy, I watched it all…I even watched man wrestling match…I don’t understand the rule at all but watch it nevertheless.

Here are the posts I made 4 years ago:

There’s something about Olympic that I found magical, I think the spirit of togetherness and glory is one of the reasons I enjoyed Olympic.

Take a look at this song by my favorite band, Muse.

Amazing Mavericks – The New Champion

My computer works perfectly at such a perfect timing.  You might not notice that I haven’t been updating my blog since5 days ago…quite a rare thing for my blog as I always write something either for my turtles’ blog or this blog. My computer has been having problem since last Monday, all posts I have after Monday were scheduled posts. I was going to publish my fourth short story but everything I was planning to write has to wait till later because today is a special day….the day all Mavericks fans can start feeling proud of their team.

I have been following and cheering for Dallas Mavericks since (about) 10 years ago….since I saw the awesomeness of Herr Dirk Nowitzki. That man is my second favorite after Michael Jordan.

I have written about their journey along Play Off series in Mavericks Vs Heat – History Repeated, they were freakin amazing during play-off!! I wasn’t going to write about the finals if Mavericks didn’t win this finals….but somehow, I have strong feeling that 2011 is Mavs Year. I know they can beat Heat…not easily…but still able to defeat them. Heat had crushed my heart when they defeated Mavericks in 2006, I hate them ever since. I really hope Mavs will have their revenge this year….and I am happy to announce that THEY HAD HAD THEIR REVENGE!! Read more of this post

Mavericks Vs Heats – History Repeated

The 2011 NBA Finals will start tomorrow. We will see the battle between Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heats once again. They met in 2006 NBA Finals. At that time, Heats defeated Mavericks…this year, I really  really hope things will go the other way around.

Although the title said Mavericks Vs Heats, I am not going to talk about Heats at all…as I hardly know anything about this team apart from the fact that they have defeated my other favorite team.

There are 2 teams that I love the most in NBA, they are Chicago Bulls and Dallas Mavericks. Reason for loving Chicago Bulls is very simple, they were the team that made me amazed with basketball, and they were the team that opened my eyes to the amazingness of NBA. I love them since 1991, I support them despite their ups and downs.

And  then…Dallas Mavericks came along. I love Bulls as a team, don’t care much whose playing in it.  But for Mavericks, the reason is Herr Dirk Nowitzki, if he left Mavericks I stopped supporting Mavs…as simple as that. He has been my favorite player for the past decade. I love everything that he does on the court…such great basketball player. Read more of this post

NBA All-Star 2011

I have been looking forward for this game since January…I have even re-scheduled my teaching schedule from 8.30am to 12.20am.

The only local TV-station that aired this event is JakTV…I have no cable because I have no use for it…so far! But…Today,I really wish I have cable TV.

I didn’t know what’s wrong, JakTV was unable to show the game :( they said it was because of the satellite link. I waited impatiently for the game to start showing up…but nothing happened till 9am.

I missed the grand opening of All-Star :(

I always love the opening event of All-Star…they were always awesome and memorable.

Thank God…the game finally showed up in the 2nd quarter, 9minutes to go.

In this 2nd Quarter, I was so impressed with LeBron’s dunk when he turned the east score into 43. In the end of the quarter, Kobe did another great dunk to increase East’s score into 68. Within seconds, Durant did another spectacular dunk from a difficult assist by Paul. Paul closed the 2d quarter with an buzzer beater shot and ensured West victory over East, 76 to 64

Norifumi Abe

This article/post is specially written for Hello Japan! Mini Challenge. This month’s challenge is to write about Japanese sport, it can be about the sport it self, traditional or modern, or about great athletes from the land of the rising sun. I admit that I was the one who suggested this theme. It came to me because MotoGP 2010 has just started.

I want to share my favorite riders to everyone who joins Hello Japan mini challenge and everyone else who stumble upon my blog. There will be 2 posts for this month challenge, 1st is the legendary Kingu Suzuka, Norifumi Abe or usually known as Norick Abe.

Abe-san was born in September 17, 1975. He was the son of Mitsuo Abe who happened to be a rider like himself. He started his racing experience in Minibikes and then moved up to Motocross. At the age of 15, he moved to Road racing and competed in US. In 1994, Abe-san had his 1st experience in the most competitive motorcycle race, MotoGP. He was given a chance to ride as a wildcard (a rider who is only allowed to ride if the Grand Prix is held in his country) on Japanese Grand Prix. His performance stunned a lot of people. He even amazed the 14 years old Valentino Rossi (who turns to be one of the greatest rider ever existed in MotoGP history), Rossi’s racing ability is way above Abe-san but knowing that he used to idolize Abe-san showed that Abe-san was really something. Rossi picked up Abe-san’s name in his early carrier by calling himself as ‘Rossifumi

In 1995 he took his 1st podium. In 1996 he won his 1st race and 5th overall championship. In 1997 he stood 4 times on podium. In 1999 he was contracted by d’Antin Antenna 3 team. In 2002, with the new regulation of 4 stroke cycle, Abe-san did not do well on the race. In 2003, he left MotoGP. During his career in as MotoGP rider, he won 3 series, Japan Grand Prix in 1996, Brazil Grand Prix in 1999 and Japan Grand Prix in 2000.

Sayonara Abe-San

Abe-san died on October 7, 2007 because of traffic accident. He was riding his bike and hit by a truck :( . It was a very sad moment (although it was not as sad as when my other favorite rider died)

Abe-san is the first reason why I watched MotoGP, I have been watching MotoGP since 1997/1998. I watched how great he was at that year, he was fighting against one of the best rider in 1990s, Mick Doohan, and he stole all my attention from the other riders. Ever since that race, I’ve become a big fan of Norick Abe. I supported him in every race even though he is not the best rider at the moment. Fortunately when he left MotoGP, another great Japanese rider came into the competition.

He might not be the greatest rider and might be forgotten as the years gone by, but he will always be one of my favorite rider and the 1st reason I enjoy MotoGP.

Next>> Daijiro Katoh, his life is full of drama and tears :(
