It’s June…Time to List My Books

It’s June, the 6th month in a year, we can consider it as the middle of the year. I have too much sadness and excitement this past half year and those two emotions had made me too busy to read…I better get back on track now.

When I look at my bookshelf this afternoon, I realize that I have quite a few books I haven’t read yet and books I haven’t finished yet. Since it is in the middle of the year, maybe this month is the perfect month to do a little cataloging ;)

Here are the books I have read and haven’t finished … yet.

The Wordsworth Collection of Irish Ghost Stories. I haven’t finished it yet because I am taking my time to read each story on its own time. When I bought it, I knew it’ll be a book I will finish in years

Captives in Time by Malcolm Bosse.  The book is not boring, it’s not that exciting either…but the book my friend lent me a couple of weeks ago really intrigued me and made me drop this book for a while. I am still at page 50. Read more of this post

Teaser Tuesday and New Books to Read

It’s been awhile since my last Teaser Tuesday,  I have been having Readers Block lately and I am happy it’s over now :)

I want to share my teaser for this Tuesday and books I have just bought 3 days ago.

Teaser Tuesday is a fun bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Everyone can play along, all you have to do is simply take the book you are currently reading. And then share 2 ‘teaser’ sentences from any page in the book. I often share more than 2 sentences ;)

Please avoid SPOILER!!

I am currently reading Moribito – Guardian of the spirit by Nahoko Uehashi.

When I heard of  the anime, Seirei no Moribito, I wasn’t really interested even though the opening song was sung by my favorite band,L’Arc~en~Ciel. But,after a friend told  me and a review by my other  friend, Kelly of My Gallery of Words…I became intrigued. about two months ago, I found the book :)

So far, I really like it. Read more of this post

I  am currently reading a memoir by K’tut Tantri called Revolt in Paradise. K’tut was a British born American citizen who had spent years in Indonesia during the colonialism of Dutch and Japan and live through the struggling of my people to protect our freedom from being taken away by the Dutch with the help of British army.

Her way of telling Indonesian history was more fun than any textbook I have ever read in school.

Here is my teaser from page 207, the event took place after the continuous bombing by the British Army on a defenseless city called Surabaya. Read more of this post

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? – July

undefined

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. This event is hosted by Sheila of Book Journey.

I decided to do regular post for this  meme but not as a weekly meme, this will be a monthly meme. I want to keep my track on what I have been reading in a month and the possibility of what I will read next month.

Book I am currently reading is Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King

From goodreads:

Stephen King’s collection of five stories about ’60s kids reads like a novel. The best is “Low Men in Yellow Coats,” about Bobby Garfield of Harwich, Connecticut, who craves a Schwinn for his 11th birthday. But his widowed mom is impoverished, and so bitter that she barely loves him. Ted Brautigan turns the boy on to great books like Lord of the Flies. Unfortunately, Ted is being hunted by yellow-jacketed men–monsters from King’s Dark Tower novels who take over the shady part of town.

Vietnam is the otherworldly horror that haunts the remaining four stories.

In honor of Mr. King, I have written a post where I count down all his books I haven’t read. there are still 50 more books to read…I love his works and will try to read them all.

These are the books I have read throughout July

Teaser Tuesday – Hearts in Atlantis

I am currently reading Hearts in Atlantis by my favorite author, Stephen King. So far, I enjoyed the first novella so much :)

I love these 2 quotes so much!

From Page 25

“There are also books full of great writing that don’t have very food stories. Read sometimes for the story, Bobby. Don’t be like the book-snobs who won’t do that. Read sometimes for the words – the language. Don’t be like the play-it-safers that won’t do that. But when you find a book that has both a good story and good words, treasure that book.”

 From Page 34

“But what if I don’t like it?”

Ted shrugged. “Then don’t finish it. A book is like a pump. It gives nothing unless first you give to it. You prime a pump with your own water, you work the handle with your strength. You do this because you expect to get back more than you give….eventually. Do you go along with that?”

Bobby nodded.

“How long would you prime a water-pump and flail the handle when nothing came out?”

Looking forward to reading your teaser :)

PS. This is my 950th post \(^^)/

Teaser Tuesday – The Little Yokozuna

Please avoid SPOILER!!

I am currently reading The Little Yokozuna by Wayne Shorey. Although it is said to be a young adult book…but I think it is more like a children  book. It’s about 7 children stranded Japan in different time to their real life.

My teaser is from page  67

“Could you explain that?” Asked Annie.

“The ocean washes  the whole world,” said the old obaa-san, “but if you take your ink brush and write the character for ocean on apiece of rice paper so you can hold it in your hand, can you sail a boat on that piece of paper?”

“I don’t think I  understand,” said Annie.

The Japanese character for Ocean is 海 .
