Back in 2011, I have written Top 5 Movies by Cillian which included two parts, one is the movies I love because of the plot and the other is the movies I love because of his amazing performance.

You can read its full post HERE (where I love those movies), but if you only want to know the title of the movies, here they are:

Best Cillian Murphy’s Movies based on the storyline:

  1. Inception
  2. Breakfast on Pluto
  3. 28 Days Later
  4. The Wind That shakes The Barley
  5. Sunshine

Best Cillian Murphy’s Movies based on his brilliant performance:

  1. Breakfast On Pluto
  2. Peacock
  3. The Wind That Shakes The Barley
  4. Disco Pigs
  5. Red Eye

Inspired by a post written by Ruth @ Flixchatter about a movie by her used to be number one actor, Gerry Butler, in which she said So that’s one crush I’m saying good bye to after all these years. Whilst we’re on the topic, which of your movie crush disappointed you this past year?

I haven’t found a movie with Cillian in it that makes me turn my back on Cillian (hopefully that will never happen) because even though I hate the movie, Cillian still looks fabulous and gave his whole heart to act his part. That post makes me want to write this post and also I think it’s not fair if I only wrote Cillian’s best movies and best performance without mentioning Cillian’s Not So Good Movies (as for acting, I still haven’t seen his bad acting yet…he still has perfect acting for me).

Here are all his movies: (Red ones means I haven’t seen it yet)

The first plan was to write a Top-5…BUT I find it sooo difficult to come up with 5 movies by Cillian that I am not too keen about. In the end, I can only come up with 3 movies.

Here are the three movies I am too keen about (the movie in number one is in fact one I really hate). I am excluding his cameo appearances such as in Cold Mountain, Tron, TDK and TDKR.

#3 The Edge of Love

The Edge of Love is not a bad movie…it’s just me!! It is TOTALLY NOT MY KIND OF MOVIE! I just don’t get movies about women fighting over one man when there is another kind and good looking man around.

I saw this movie years ago, before I was turned into a Cillianiac…seeing this movie only confirms me that Cillian Murphy is incredibly gorgeous…the movie itself incredibly bored me. While watching it, I kept saying ‘what is this movie?’ The man those two ladies loved isn’t THAT loveable. Till this day, even though I haven’t reviewed the movie I still have no will to rewatch it.

I will watch it again one day and review it…and when that time comes, I can assure you the review won’t be pretty and it will only be because Cillian is so darn gorgeous, just look at the screencap below ;)

#2 The Girl With a Pearl Earring

BORIIIIIIIING. I am not saying the movie is bad, but it is more like ‘it’s SO not my kind of movie’. The only good part of this movie is the 3 C : Cillian Murphy, Colin Firth and Cinematography. The cinematography was amazing. My review is here.

I have cut the movie into only Cillian’s scenes but the quality is not good :( I am still looking for a good video cutter that will not change the quality of the video being cut. Cillian was brilliant here, he even practiced to be a butcher despite the fact he is a vegetarian.

Unfortunately, Cillian has a bad wig day in this movie ;) I don’t think I will ever rewatch this movie…I will only see the edited version.

Cillian as Pieter

Cillian In Time

#1 In Time

The sentence “not too keen about” is not appropriate for this movie as I really hate it! Maybe I wouldn’t hate it that much if I am not ‘forced to see it’. I can tell whether I will dislike a movie or not just by looking at its trailer…and I know since the time I read In Time synopsis that I will not like it, the trailer only confirmed it even more…BUT Cillian is in it which means I HAD to watch it. And I was right, I dislike the movie!! I hate it because I have to see it. Cillian was awesome there, one of his sexiest look but I still can’t rewatch the movie till this minute.

I am still looking for a good video cutter where I can cut the whole movie and only leave the parts where my dearest Cillian in on it…only then I will rewatch the movie.

My only hope is for Cillian never to play in such cheesy plot like In Time ever again. But I wouldn’t mind seeing him in leather jacket looking so cool again ;)

Cillian as Timekeeper Leon

********************

Now, off to the news :)

According to Indiewire, Cillian will play a movie called Cry/Fly with Jennifer Connelly (the wife of my other favorite actor, Paul Bettany) and Melanie Laurent. It will be directed by Claudia Llosa, a Peruvian director making her debut in English speaking movie.

The story is : (Copied from Indiwire)

Jennifer Connelly, who, between this and “Noah,” seems to be coming back into the spotlight, will star as the mother of a girl “who is terminally ill. A dramatic event separates the mother from her sick daughter and falcon-keeper son, and 20 years later, the son is persuaded by a journalist to embark on a search for his now-famous mother.” The supremely underrated Cillian Murphy will play the grown-up version of her son with “Inglourious Basterds” and “Beginners” actress Melanie Laurent landing the journalist role.

Can’t say much about the upcoming movie for now…I hope it’ll be something that will show Cillian’s true talent in acting :)

Great post, Novia! I’m glad you like Breakfast on Pluto. Patricia “Kitten” Braden is definitely my favorite Cillian Murphy role (although I’ll admit that I’ve only seen a handful of his movies). I am not a fan of Inception (I know, I’m in the minority here. :-) ) I haven’t seen the others on your top five lists.

      Thank you Steph :)
Owww how I love Breakfast on Pluto…love it so much I watch it twice every year.
I like complicated sci-fi like Inception and The Matrix…I am a sucker for such sci-fi ;)
I hope you can watch the other movies, especially the ones where he acts the best

“Sunshine” is one of my favorite movies of all time. I also really liked “Inception” and “28 Days Later”. I’ve yet to see any of the other movies on either of your top 5 lists, but I think I have “Red Eye” in the queue at least!

Thanks for the link, Nov. Well I doubt Cillian would ever disappoint you because of his performance, I mean can’t imagine him doing anything remotely as banal as Playing For Keeps, ahah. Even In Time and The Edge of Love were still ok, not great obviously but Cillian’s performances are both good in it.

    • Novroz January 28, 2013 at 9:57 pm

No problem…you gave me idea ;)
I have been writing about Cillian for 2 years, I need lots of ideas.
hear hear…even though his movies are not good but he is still great. He never act half-hearted.

  4. DEZMOND January 28, 2013 at 9:43 pm

I don’t know how he can be a vegetarian and do a butcher role… I’d never do it, it is against all vegetarian principles!
I liked COLD MOUNTAIN but I can’t seem to remember him in it, although I know he was in the film.
PEAR EARRING really was an utter borefest, especially with freezing cold Scarlett, but Cillian was great in it.

    • Novroz January 28, 2013 at 9:54 pm

Well…it shows that he is a professional actor!! If the role is challenging, he’ll take it regardless what other people think…which is why I adore him!

Cillian is only a cameo in Cold Mountain.
Totally Agree…incredibly boring, I skipped forward most of it.

Well, I know you hated ‘In Time’, I remembered from your review. I also didn’t like the Girl with The Pearl Earring so much, I think the book was better (hey, I did read the book, I remembered!). But I didn’t remember Cillian, watched it like 10 years ago. The Edge of Love seems like a torture for you :D but even I turned off by its title, so I skipped it and never watched it.

    • Novroz January 28, 2013 at 10:59 pm

Ow Andina….those three movies are a torture for me!! You have no idea how I struggle to finish them (the thing I do for Cillian!) But I wouldn’t say The Edge of Love is a bad movie, you might like it tho ;)

Many said that the book of The Girl With a Pearl Earring is better than the movie…but I doubt it’ll be my kind of book, so I think I’ll skip that ;)

He’s more active than I realize. But then, if it weren’t for you I probably wouldn’t even know his name.

  7. TBM January 29, 2013 at 10:09 pm

I’m amazed by how many of his movies I haven’t seen. I need to fix that!

    • Novroz January 29, 2013 at 10:39 pm

Don’t worry…many who claimed as Cillian Murphy fans in Indonesia haven’t seen most of his movies. He has so many independent movies is the main reason.

“Bad wig day” – that really cracked me up. It’s soo true. I liked the movie but I can see why you didn’t.
